Standings Shuffle: 40 Move Up in Top 15

The first high-dollar rodeo of 2021 generated a significant shakeup in the PRCA | RAM World Standings with 40 cowboys climbing the ranks of their respective events and into the Top 15. Of the bunch, 16 cowboys jumped from outside the Top 50 and into the Top 15 – five of whom are steer wrestlers.

While the Sandhills Stock Show & Rodeo in Odessa, Texas, ponied up $262,106 in prize money, cowboys on the north side of the country cashed in at the RAM Montana Circuit Finals Rodeo in Kalispell, where $134,472 was up for grabs, creating a $396,578 weekend total.

The 2021 season officially started Oct. 1, and as each of the RAM circuit finals rodeos concludes, cowboys are establishing a solid base for launching their trek down the ProRodeo road.

So far, the new season has already paid out $2,833,199.

Cowboys know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top than it is to play catch-up when trying to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Every dollar counts, and making the Top 15 in the world standings early establishes a solid base and builds a cowboy’s confidence as the season picks up pace.

Nobody knows that better than the 16 cowboys who launched from outside the Top 50 and into the Top 15. With more major rodeos on the horizon, big jumps such as these are sure to happen again.

Cowboys on the bubble for a spot in the Top 15 can find themselves a few dollars short of qualifying for the Wrangler NFR. The end of the 2020 season is so far away that the bubble doesn’t matter yet, but it’s still noteworthy to see who is on the cusp of breaking into the Top 15. The following cowboys climbed the standings to No. 16.

• Steer wrestler Joseph Guze moved from outside the Top 50 and is $15 away from breaking into the Top 15.
• Team roping heeler Colton Brittain moved from 38th and is $4 away from breaking into the Top 15.
• Steer roper Chet Herren moved from 17th and is $222 away from breaking into the Top 15.

More major changes in the world standings are likely to occur in the coming weeks as the San Antonio Qualifier is Jan. 21-24 in Fort Worth, Texas, and the RAM Southeastern Circuit Finals Rodeo is Jan. 22-23 in Davie, Fla.
