PRCA Standings Shuffle: 45 Move Up in Top 15

The 2020 Cowboy Christmas run was unlike any other. Although the number of competitions was down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ProRodeo’s level of competition was hot with increased entries at competitions across the U.S.

This lucrative period in the summer run can be a determining factor in the race to stay in the Top 15, and the impact it has will be felt when the regular season ends Sept. 30.

The 14 ProRodeo competitions held June 29 through July 6 paid out a collective $1,722,595, which helped 45 ProRodeo athletes advance within the Top 15 for their respective events in the PRCA | RAM World Standings.

Cowboys know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top than it is to play catch-up when trying to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Every dollar counts, and making the Top 15 in the world standings early establishes a solid base and builds a cowboy’s confidence during the summer run.

Nobody knows this better than team roping heeler Levi Lord who jumped 22 spots, from 32nd to 10th, thanks to the $16,333 he and partner Nelson Wyatt earned. Among the highlights of their week was winning the Sitting Bull Stampede in Mobridge, S.D., for $4,009.

The pair also picked up:

• $5,933 at the Cody (Wyo.) Stampede
• $3,344 at the Black Hills Roundup in Belle Fourche, S.D.
• $2,265 at the Bigfork (Mont.) Summer ProRodeo
• $783 at the World’s Oldest Rodeo in Prescott, Ariz.

Lord, 24, nearly qualified for his first NFR in 2019 when he finished 19th in the world with $62,095 while roping alongside Wyatt. If their hot streak continues, they could find themselves making their NFR debuts in December.

Cowboys on the bubble for a spot in the Top 15 can find themselves a few dollars short of qualifying for the NFR. There are plenty of opportunities to win big between now and the end of the 2020 season, but it’s still noteworthy to see who is on the cusp of breaking into the Top 15.

Lane Ivy moved from 17th in team roping heading and is $999 away from breaking into the Top 15.
Chet Herren moved from 17th in steer roping and is $718 away from breaking into the Top 15.
Brody Yeary moved from 17th in bull riding and is $681 away from breaking into the Top 15.

More changes in the world standings are likely as the second week of July features several opportunities to win big, including the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo in Vernal, Utah, a ProRodeo Tour stop, and the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse Frontier Days and PRCA Rodeo in Weatherford, Texas.

Fans can catch the Vernal rodeo on the PRCA on the Cowboy Channel Plus App, July 8-11 at 9:30 p.m. (ET). Weatherford will air on The Cowboy Channel via cable or satellite providers as well as the app July 8-11 at 8:30 p.m.
