15/15 Preview: Chiseled has No Quit in him Amidst YETI World Champion Bull Race

By: Justin Felisko

PUEBLO, Colo. – World No. 2 YETI World Champion Bull contender Chiseled has posted a 46-point or better bull score in four of his five outs this second half, but the 2019 ABBI Classic champion still has his work cut out for him as he tries to catch No. 1 Woopaa.

However, don’t expect D&H Cattle Company or Chiseled to back down from the challenge.

“We probably don’t have a chance, but we never give up, and the good thing is Chiseled never gives up,” Dillon Page said following Chiseled’s 46.5-point out for bucking off Claudio Montanha Jr. (5.82 seconds) at Cowboys for a Cause in Corpus Christi, Texas. “You can’t give up. When you give up, you are done.”

Chiseled heads into this weekend’s 15/15 Bucking Battle in Deadwood, South Dakota, 0.47 points behind Woopaa. The 6-year-old bovine is matched up against Cody Jesus.

“I love it,” Jesus told PBR.com Tuesday about learning of the matchup. “Chiseled is just so cool, and he’s going to give you a 90-plus (ride) if you do your job. It’s going to be a big test for me away from my hand.”

Fans can watch the 15/15 Bucking Battle Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on CBS national television.

Chiseled would need a 49.5-point bull score to tie Woopaa in the world standings, but he could more realistically cut the deficit between the two stalwart contenders with a 46-point score or higher.

The 2021 YETI World Champion Bull will be the animal with the highest average bull score from their top eight regular-season outs and two outs at the PBR World Finals (Nov. 3-7 in Las Vegas).

The reality is that Chiseled is still in the mix for the 2021 YETI World Championship, especially considering whoever wins the 2021 World Champion Bull title has to buck twice at the World Finals.

A subpar out in Las Vegas by Woopaa would open the door for his challengers.

Chiseled’s World Champion Bull average (Top 8 outs) is 46.31 points, and his lowest score among his Top 8 is 45.75 points. Woopaa sits No. 1 with a 46.78-point World Champion Bull average. He is next tentatively expected to buck in San Antonio, Texas, on Oct. 2-3 at the PBR U.S. Border Patrol Invitational, presented by Ariat.

Chiseled has bucked off six consecutive riders in PBR competition. His last qualified ride came at the Lawton, Oklahoma, PRCA event, where Josh Frost rode him for 92 points.

Page was happy with what he saw from Chiseled in Corpus Christi against Montanha, and the bovine superstar has had the last two weeks off and will be refreshed for the outdoor event in Deadwood.

“I thought he really bucked today,” Page said. “He had to be showy, and he got way off the ground. He was real good today.”

CAN PACHECO MAKE UP GROUND?

2018 World Champion and world No. 2 Kaique Pacheco will have an opportunity to shave some points off his 866-point deficit between himself and injured No. 1 Jose Vitor Leme this weekend in Deadwood.

Leme informed the PBR competition department he will not be competing this weekend after injuring his right groin in Newark, and that he is taking things week to week after undergoing an MRI Tuesday in Dallas.

Pacheco has drawn Drago (18-2, UTB/METC) for the 15/15 Bucking Battle.

Drago has bucked off three consecutive riders on the Unleash The Beast and six overall since Leme rode him for 92.25 points at Last Cowboy Standing. Marco Eguchi (83.25 points last year at the World Finals) is the only other rider with a qualified ride aboard the Chad Berger bucking bull.

Meanwhile, world No. 4 Dener Barbosa (right shoulder) and No. 11 Rafael Henrique dos Santos (broken ribs) are also not competing in Deadwood.
