Bred to Buck: Vegas Style Yearling Bull Sale Sets Records

The ambiance of Las Vegas set the stage at the South Point Casino for the annual Bred to Buck – Vegas Style Yearling Bull Sale, presented by D&H Cattle Co and Lone Star Bucking Bull Genetics.

The buyers’ eagerness to win was matched equally by the talent of the young bovine athletes offered to the general public, which resulted in a record-breaking sale for the bucking bull industry.

The sale offered 21 half-interest (50%) lots, bringing a staggering $1.25 million.

Half interest refers to D&H and Lone Star retaining 50% interest in their animals, explained Jay Daugherty, President of American Bucking Bull (ABBI).

“Buyers from all walks of life, such as doctors, lawyers, oil refining professionals, teachers, etc., are coming to participate in the bucking bull industry,” Daugherty said. “The passion these buyers have for the Western lifestyle and the purse money now up for grabs at the ABBI events brews a perfect storm for the bucking bull industry.”

ABBI has recently committed to adding $200,000 annually in prize money, which has resulted in an exponential increase in participation and prize money at events, according to Daugherty.

Over the last 12 months, the ABBI has had more than 3,000 animals participate in their hosted events with more than $7.5 million in prize money, which was increased by a sum exceeding $1.5 million since 2021.

In Las Vegas, the ABBI has more than 700 animals entered to participate throughout the week. The bull industry keeps growing yearly and does not appear to be slowing anytime soon.

“We are fortunate for the ABBI to set the stage with the purse money at their events, which has allowed us to sell our bulls. The blood, sweat and tears we put into our breeding programs over the year finally come to fruition at our bull sales,” said HD Page of D&H Cattle.

Its members and participants fuel the ABBI. As a registry, genetics can speak for themselves. At each event, the ABBI focuses on giving its members a legitimate opportunity to make their cattle worth more money.

“The ABBI is thrilled to increase our payout by more than 20% over the last year, and we couldn’t have done that without our committed ABBI members,” Daugherty said.

“We appreciate everything our loyal members are doing for us and our growing industry.”
