Bull Rider Josh Frost Captures Win in Fort Worth
FORT WORTH, Texas – Josh Frost was not to be denied.
The standout bull rider had never won the storied Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo and that changed Saturday night.
The Randlett, Utah, cowboy had a 90.5-point ride on Rafter G Rodeo’s High Brow Cat to win the finals at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo Saturday night before a sellout crowd of 9,300 at Dickies Arena.
“This feels amazing,” Frost said. “I actually got hurt here in 2021 and it feels good to get back out here and get four bulls rode through this rodeo and come out on top. I had never been on that bull before. I had seen that bull a bunch and Rafter G just barely bought him, he’s new to their string, but he has been around for a while, and he’s known to do some wild, crazy stuff. I knew I just needed to be a cowboy and go jump for jump and it worked out pretty good.”
Frost, who finished second in the 2022 PRCA | RAM World Standings, earned $20,000 for his finals ride. Reigning PRCA Bull Riding World Champion Stetson Wright finished second with an 87.5-point ride on 4L & Diamond S Rodeo’s Dances with Monsters and earned $16,000.
Frost and Wright were the only bull riders out of the eight in the finals to make the whistle.
“It was just bull riding, but it got pretty scrappy,” said Frost about his winning ride. “Once he turned back, he was getting it. I just had to kick loose and bare down. Getting a win like this (early in the season) means a lot. These big winter rodeos are very important. We all saw it last year with Sage Kimzey. He won $100,000 by going to like eight rodeos. That was my big goal coming into this year to make these winter rodeos count and take a little better care of my body and be focused and have fun.”
Other winners at the Playoff Series rodeo were bareback rider Rocker Steiner (90 points on Calgary Stampede’s Yipee Kibitz); steer wrestler Will Lummus (4.1 seconds); team ropers Andrew Ward/Buddy Hawkins II (3.9 seconds); saddle bronc riders Dawson Hay (90.5 points on Calgary Stampede’s Tokyo Bubbles) and Stetson Wright (90.5 points on Calgary Stampede’s Xena Warrior); tie-down roper Westyn Hughes (7.4 seconds); breakaway roper Cheyenne Guillory (1.9 seconds); and barrel racer Jackie Ganter (16.30 seconds).
