Friday, March 10, 2023 in Houston, Tex.

HOUSTON, Texas—Two record-breaking prices were the highlights of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo™ Junior Market Lamb and Goat Auction.

The Hildebrand Family, in memory of Ruth Ann and Dr. Tommy Hildebrand, purchased the Grand Champion Junior Market Lamb, exhibited by 17-year-old John Austin North, from Sanger, Texas. The lamb was purchased for a world record breaking $350,000.

“There is no finer philanthropy to donate to,” Jeff Hildebrand said. “Being a donor is a part of our history and lineage.”

This was North’s first time on the RODEOHOUSTON ® auction block with his medium wool lamb, Prince.

North plans to attend Angelo State University next fall where he will major in animal science to become an animal chiropractor and compete on the wool judging team.

Reserve Grand Champion lamb exhibitor Cole Bynum, 18, who will be studying Artificial
Insemination Reproduction at Texas Tech in the fall, and his Medium Wool lamb, Mr. Valentine, brought in $160,000. He says that he is very grateful for his buyers, Amy & Mark Melton, Mary & Ken Hucherson, Mary Lee & Alan Stigall, and Tammy, Peyton & Mitchell Barrier.

Tammy Barrier continues to donate to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for many heart- warming reasons.

“We love the mission, the statement and the children,” Barrier said. “This is what we enjoy. It’s in our heart.”

Brynlee Hogg, from Lubbock, Texas, and a member of Lubbock County 4-H, sold her Grand Champion Market Goat, Peanut, for a Houston record breaking $240,000. Skip Avara, Melissa & Jimmy Guinn, Fire Safe Protection Services- Lizzy & Stephen McKinney and Tea & Bill Pinkley made this year’s Grand Champion purchase.

The 16-year-old plans to attend Texas A&M University where she will major in animal science to become a large animal veterinarian.

Reserve Grand Champion Goat exhibitor Brett Bowers, 17, sold his goat for $135,000. Having
an extra special bond with his goat, Crick, Bowers said he has gained a new perspective.

“I’ve had this goat since its birth, and watching him grow is really cool,” Bowers said. “It gives you a different perspective.”

Bowers’ goat was purchased by Michelle Iverson Jeffery in Honor of Christy Iverson, Jay
Graham, Joyce & Marcus Abdo and KCEF Foundation/Cookie Michael. Joyce Abdo said she likes being a part of something so special.

“We are so honored to be a small part of the hard work these kids put forth,” she said.
