Calgary Stampede | Don’t Miss This

It was a great day to be a Hay on Showdown Sunday. Brothers Logan and Dawson Hay both made it to the Finals in Saddle Bronc, with Logan coming out on top with an 89.5 ride on the back of Baby Kibitz to edge out his brother Dawson’s 89.0, and secure $50,000 and the crown of Stampede Champion. Rookie sensation and crowd favourite Rocker Steiner walked away as the Bareback winner at just 18 years old and said his plans for the $50,000? “Probably blow it all!” to raucous applause from GMC Stadium. Just after setting the Track Record earlier in the week, Kassie Mowry rode off with the victory in Barrel Racing. After an incredible, tense round of Tie-Down Roping in the Short Go, the Final Showdown saw two No Times, and a 22.4 second run, giving Caleb Smidt the win with a 7.5 second round. Will Lummus posted a blazing 3.6 second effort in Steer Wrestling, the fasted run of the entire Stampede this year, to walk away as the Champion. The drama didn’t end there, as the Bulls, as they usually do, saved the best for last. After the first four rides came up empty, we went to a re-ride for all four competitors. Shane Proctor put up 88.5, right before Dakota Buttar matched him buck for buck, posting the same score on the final ride of Stampede 2022 giving us not one, but two Bull Riding Champions.
