Annual Stampede Pride Day celebrations to honour fourth Western Trailblazer Award winner

The Stampede Pride Day Event Organizers, along with their partners at the Calgary Stampede and BMO Financial Group (BMO), are excited to recognize an outstanding member of the southern Alberta community for contributions to the 2SLGBTQ+ community, with the fourth annual Western Trailblazer Award. This special award will be presented on Stampede Pride Day in Nashville North at the Calgary Stampede, on Saturday, July 9, 2022.

“We want to honour and celebrate those who give back to the 2SLGBTQ+ community by affecting change, and bringing experiences to those who may not have previously felt comfortable in a particular setting,” said Charles Macmichael, Pride Day Organizer & Founder. “This fourth annual award is a wonderful way to continue creating welcoming spaces for the 2SLGBTQ+ community, at the Calgary Stampede.”

The Western Trailblazer award will be presented at Nashville North between 3:30 and 4 p.m. by Charles Macmichael, Pride Day Organizer & Founder; Steve McDonough, President & Chairman of the Board, Calgary Stampede; and sponsor, BMO representative Meghan Haddaway, Regional Lead of Prairies Chapter, BMO Pride Canada Employee Resource Group. The award recipient is chosen by a panel of judges and the selected individual is someone who has demonstrated their energy, influence and bravery in making a positive impact in the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

As a top-level sponsor of Stampede, BMO will have a strong presence across the grounds and will be on-site for Stampede Pride Day highlighting its “Rainbow Deposits” initiative, encouraging attendees to “deposit” pictures of rainbows around Stampede Park by visiting www.BMORainbowDeposits.com. For every rainbow deposited during Stampede Pride Day, BMO will donate $5 to Rainbow Railroad, a non-profit organization committed to helping persecuted members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community find safety around the world.

“BMO has been a proud supporter of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and Pride dating back to the early 1980’s. Stampede Pride Day exemplifies our Purpose to Boldly Grow the Good in business and life and strengthens our commitment to Zero Barriers to Inclusion,” said John MacAulay, Regional President, Prairies Central, BMO Bank of Montreal. “BMO Rainbow Deposits represents a new and exciting way to show support to the 2SLGBTQ+ community; turning any rainbow into resources for those in need.”

“The event is all about bringing people together in the spirit of pride of place and western hospitality, to enjoy one of the year’s most amazing events in our local community, the Calgary Stampede. I am so pleased to say that our partnership with the Calgary Stampede organization continues to grow as we work together to bring all members of our community to the Calgary Stampede to create safe and memorable experiences,” added Macmichael.
