California Rodeo Salinas Unveils 2021 Commemorative Poster

LOCAL ARTIST BROUGHT A SADDLE BRONC RIDING PHOTO TO LIFE

SALINAS, CA – Dave Pedrazzi, the California Rodeo’s 2020 and 2021 President, loves traditional rodeo events and, being a rancher himself, has selected classic events to be featured on the commemorative posters that he directed. Even though the Rodeo was cancelled in 2020, the poster featured Tie-down Roper Tuf Cooper. Tie-down Roping originated from ranchers doctoring their livestock out in the open. The 2021 poster features the classic rodeo event of Saddle Bronc Riding, originating from cowboys breaking horses to ride. The vibrant oil painting by Marti Miller Hubbell was modeled after a photo of 2014 World Champion Spencer Wright, a member of the well-known Wright family from Milford, Utah, taken by Phil Doyle of Livermore, CA.

Marti Miller Hubbell is a self-taught painter and rodeo enthusiast who attends the California Rodeo Salinas with her husband, John, faithfully each year. Hubbell’s home has always been in San Benito County where her ancestors first settled in the 1860’s. She was raised on the ranch that her great-grandfather homesteaded in 1882, which her brother and family continue to operate today. She and her husband run a stocker cattle operation only 30 miles from the family ranch. Hubbell celebrates California’s rich ranching heritage and her love of nature and the outdoors in her paintings while finding inspiration in daily ranching activities. “I was thrilled to paint the California Rodeo’s poster art for the second time. I truly love the sport of rodeo and the western lifestyle and am honored to be part of the legacy of this wonderful community event,” said Hubbell.

The poster will be available for purchase for $20 at www.carodeo.com* starting Tuesday, August 24th, at the California Rodeo Salinas Office at 1034 N. Main Street in Salinas Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm (except for Fridays when the office closes from 11:45am to 1:15pm) or in the souvenir tent at the California Rodeo Salinas September 23-26, 2021.
