Campbell Big Winner at San Antonio Rodeo Xtreme Bulls

By Susan Kanode

SAN ANTONIO  – Boudreaux Campbell’s dreams came true on Saturday afternoon at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo Xtreme Bulls competition.

Campbell of Crockett, Texas, had been dreaming of winning a championship buckle with the X on it – signature for Xtreme bulls since he was a youngster. Now at 21, and after three years of trying, he finally accomplished that goal and had his dreams come true in the AT&T Center on Saturday afternoon.

He was one of eight riders to make it to the eight-second mark in the first round of competition. His 82-point ride on Andrews Rodeo’s bull named Rodeo Time got him a second-place check and put his name on the list for the Final Round next to a bull named Ferdinand owned by Four L and Diamond S Rodeo.

This was the first time that Campbell had ever attempted to ride the bull and even though Ferdinand did his best, Campbell’s effort was better. When the judges added up their scores, he had an 88 by his name with one rider left to go.

That rider was Dairy, Oregon’s Levi Gray who had won the first round. Gray, was on another bull owned by Four L and Diamond S named House of Pain. Gray did his job and got a score as well, but it was half a point behind Campbells. The other rider that got a score in the final round was Jeff Askey from Athens, Texas, who scored 87 Gray had an 87.5.

Boudreaux’s earnings topped out at $18,950. Gray collected $14,450 and Askey added $7,200 to his account.
