Charmer Marked Impressive 47.25 Points; Ridin Solo to Buck in Billings Champ Round

By: Justin Felisko

BILLINGS, Mont. – The largest eruption of shock and disbelief on Saturday night inside First Interstate Arena at MetraPark may have occurred during the 15/15 Bucking Battle when a rising bovine star from D&H Cattle Company left the bucking chutes.

Charmer absolutely erupted from the chutes with a massive leap out into the arena before sending Derek Kolbaba to the dirt in only 3.7 seconds for a career-high 47.25 points during the PBR Cooper Tires Invitational, presented by Ariat.

“He gets in the air and kicks and bucks hard,” stock contractor H.D. Page said. “He does it every time. I’ve entered him four times in the Classics and never won a dollar. He always does a jump or two before he turns.”

The 4-year-old’s out is the second-best in the PBR this year behind Ridin Solo’s 47.5-point outing in Little Rock, Arkansas, this season (4.65 seconds vs. Dalton Kasel).

Charmer, a half-brother to Chiseled, will become eligible for the 2022 YETI World Champion Bull title when he bucks for the sixth time on Sunday in the championship round, but the No. 11-ranked bull is likely too far behind the top tier of contenders this season. However, if he is selected to buck at the World Finals, he could be a dark horse for the 2022 YETI Bull of the Finals title.

“Oh yeah, we’ve got a shot if he bucks like that every time,” Page said.

Charmer previously bucked off world leader Joao Ricardo Vieira in 3.18 seconds for a 45.75-point bull score last weekend in Nampa, Idaho.

Billings is a busy weekend for D&H Cattle Company, with 20 bulls in the regular event and eight in the 15/15 Bucking Battle.

Page also helped flank Ridin Solo Saturday night in an important out for the No. 2-ranked bull in the World Championship race.

Stock contractor Cord McCoy could not be in Billings this weekend, so Page offered to flank Ridin Solo. McCoy hopes to take over the No. 1 ranking before the World Finals begins on May 13 in Fort Worth, Texas, and claim the $25,000 regular-season bull title.

Ridin Solo, though, was only marked 45.25 points for bucking off Eli Vastbinder in 4.08 seconds. He will now need to be marked 46.5 points on Championship Sunday if he hopes to overtake Woopaa in the standings before the bull race shifts its attention to Dickies Arena in two weeks.

Fans can watch the conclusion of the Unleash The Beast regular season from Billings Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network.

“I thought he bucked hard,” Page said. “I might’ve got fired, though. The pressure is on me. But Ridin Solo tops all the categories the judges look for. The rear, the drop, the intensity, the kick. All of it. He’s got it all. You just have to get out of those bulls’ way. If you try to do anything fancy with the flank, that is when stuff will go south.”

Page then joked, “Cord didn’t read the fine print, but I get half if he does it.”
