Chase Brooks Eyes Ride with Delta Force in Guymon

Saddle bronc rider Chase Brooks knows he has an opportunity he can’t waste.

The Deer Lodge, Mont., cowboy has drawn perennial Wrangler National Finals Rodeo selection Frontier Rodeo’s Delta Force at the Guymon (Okla.) Pioneer Days Rodeo, Aug. 21.

“I’ve never been on her, but I’ve heard quite a bit about her,” said Brooks, 26. “She’s supposed to be a bucker, and I could be decent points on her. When I saw the draw, I got jacked. With how few rodeos we have this year (because of the COVID-19 pandemic) it’s tough to get drawn into those really good pens, especially this late in the year.”

The rodeo is Aug. 21, 8:30 p.m. (ET); Aug. 22, 3 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., and Aug. 23, 3 p.m. It will be broadcast and streamed live on The Cowboy Channel and the PRCA on Cowboy Channel Plus App. For details visit cowboychannelplus.com.

Brooks was 12th in the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $35,393 as of Aug. 18. The regular season ends Sept. 30. Brooks qualified for the NFR the last two seasons.

“I need to win some more money, and this (draw of Delta Force) could help me out quite a bit,” Brooks said. “Hopefully she will work out. I know horses aren’t going to do the same thing every time, and if I can get a rein measurement then I try not to think about it too much before the ride. It seems like you will buck yourself off if you’re overthinking before you get on.”

Jake Watson split fifth with an 87-point ride on Delta Force in Round 3 of the 2019 Wrangler NFR.

Brooks has a hectic schedule upcoming. He’s competing Thursday at the Northwest Montana Fair and Rodeo in Kalispell, Mont., Friday in Guymon and Saturday at the Cassia County Fair & Rodeo in Burley, Idaho.

“We’re going to be driving all over the place,” Brooks said. “We didn’t get set up very well, but we can make it work.”
