Colt Gordon Eyes Return From Injury

Saddle bronc rider Colt Gordon missed out on qualifying for his second consecutive Wrangler National Finals Rodeo last season.

Now, the Comanche, Okla., cowboy is eyeing a return to action after being sidelined with a broken right fibula since Jan. 20.

Gordon suffered the injury while practicing in Thomas, Okla.

“I was riding a horse and he turned out of there and ran me down the gate and twisted my leg around,” said Gordon, 23. “I had surgery. They put in a plate and five screws. I have been rehabbing and trying to get recovered. I was in a hard cast for awhile and a walking boot for a good while. I just got cleared last week to take the boot off. I’m cleared to get back on horses, but I still have some more physical therapy to do.”

Gordon, who was 23rd in the 2020 PRCA | RAM World Standings with $27,423, is hoping to compete at the Osage Xtreme Bronc Days in Pawhuska, Okla., March 26-27.

“I thought my leg was going to be a lot stronger,” Gordon said. “I’m planning on trying to get on at Pawhuska, but when it comes down to it and doesn’t feel ready, I’ll wait for the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo (in Kissimmee, Fla., April 9-10).”

Gordon was second in the Prairie Circuit in the year-end standings but qualified for Kissimmee because Jake Finlay won the year-end and the average titles.

“My goal is to get back to the (NFR),” Gordon said. “I should have been back last year, but I had some stuff go wrong and some bad luck. We are getting everything gathered back up and going to be in shape and at the top of my game. When I get to Kissimmee, I want to win it.”

Gordon finished 15th in the 2019 world standings with $112,635. He placed in three rounds at the NFR that season.
