FORT WORTH, Texas – With two performances at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo (FWSSR) on Saturday, contestants saw their hopes of being among the first to win championships in the new Dickies Arena turn into opportunities or disappointments.

The matinee featured the second round of the fifth bracket. There were four contestants that earned over $3,000 in that bracket who are all headed to the semi-finals. Jimmie Smith, from McDade, Texas was the big winner in barrel racing. Riding her great Palomino mare Lena, she got checks for first and second place totaling $3,080.

In the team roping it was Kaleb Driggers, from Hoboken, Georgia and Brazilian Junior Nogueira who were at the top of the leaderboard. They earned $3,080 each. The big money winner in the bracket was Jeff Askey of Athens, Texas. Askey was one of two men to ride his bull in each round, so he got extra money for the effort. He moves to the semi-finals with $3,960 in his pocket.

Saturday night the FWSSR ProRodeo Tour continued with the beginning of bracket 6 of 7. Rising to the top of that performance was former college rodeo breakaway roper Tanegai Zilverberg from Holabird, South Dakota.

Zilverberg made history on Saturday night as the first breakaway roper to stop the clock in under two seconds. With laser beam focus, she roped a calf and stopped the clock in 1.9 seconds.

Breakaway roping is new for 2020 as is the tournament style format. Listening to the crowd after Zilverberg roped, it appears to be very popular with the fans in Dickies Arena.

Trevor Kastner of Roff, Oklahoma has won the bull riding title at this rodeo on two previous occasions, both in the historical Will Rogers Coliseum. He is riding for his third in the Dickies Arena and the success keeps coming.

Kastner was one of three riders that lasted eight seconds on Saturday night. He was at the top of the leader board after scoring 86 points on Four L/Diamond S Rodeo’s bull named Cabo. Kastner got $1,907 for his efforts.

The FWSSR ProRodeo Tournament continues on Sunday with one performance at 2 p.m. That will see the completion of Bracket 6. The seventh and final bracket will feature two rounds, Monday and Tuesday.
