For The Record: Greeley Stampede

With the addition of Rusty Wright in 2017, the Greeley (Colo.) Stampede’s saddle bronc riding record of 87 points is shared by nine cowboys.

Since 1953, Greeley has hosted some of the biggest names in ProRodeo, but only the best leave their mark with a rodeo record.

Those records, and a piece of the Greeley prize money, will be up for grabs June 27 through July 3. As part of the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour, fans can catch the Greeley action on the Wrangler Network, July 2-3.

Trevor Brazile set the Greeley record for most money won in all-around in 2013 with $12,413.

Six bareback riders share the Greeley record of 89 points. Cimarron Gerke set the record in 2004, and it was matched by Royce Ford (2009), Bobby Mote (2009), Will Lowe (2013), Tim O’Connell (2014) and Shane O’Connell (2017). The two-head average record was set by Tim O’Connell in 2014 with 174 points.

Two steer wrestlers share the Greeley record of 3.2 seconds. Swede Swanson set the record in 1977, and Mike Sanders matched him in 1993. The two-head average record of 7.1 seconds was set in 1993 by Mark Roy. The three-head average record of 11.7 seconds was set by Brad Gleason in 1997.

Team ropers Derrick Begay and Cesar de la Cruz set the Greeley record of 4.3 seconds in 2011. Jake Cooper and Rhen Richard set the two-head average record of 9.8 seconds in 2012. Todd Arthur and Twister Cain set the three-head average record of 15.7 seconds in 1998.

Saddle bronc rider Billy Etbauer set the Greeley record of 87 points in 1996. Since, his record was matched by Jesse Bail (2002), Mo Forbes (2002), Dan Mortensen (2004), Rod Warren (2005), Cody Wright (2008), Jeff Willert (2010), Chad Ferley (2013) and Rusty Wright (2017). The two-head average record of 172 points was set by Forbes in 2002. Bud Clemens set the three-head average record of 163 points in 1964.

Three tie-down ropers share the Greeley record of 7.6 seconds. Raymond Hollabaugh set the record in 1990, which was matched by Fred Whitfield in 1994 and Charley Russell in 2007. Brent Lewis set the two-head average record of 16.7 seconds in 1993. Ronnie Hyde set the three-head average record of 26.3 seconds in 1997.

Barrel racer JoAnn Middleton set the Greeley record of 16.90 seconds in 1993. Kristie Peterson set the two-run average record of 34.16 seconds in 1994. Peterson also set the three-run average record of 51.83 seconds in 2000.

Bull rider Blaine Whipp set the Greeley record of 91 points in 2002. The two-head average record of 176 points was set by Cody Hancock in 2008.
