For the Record: Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo

For the last 60 years, the Ogden (Utah) Pioneer Days Rodeo has seen many records set and broken by cowboys who go on to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Polaris RANGER. Competition kicks off today and cowboys have through July 24 to try to earn a spot in the Ogden arena’s record books.

Clint Robinson holds the Ogden record for most all-around money won with the $6,436 he earned in 2006.

Bareback rider Kaycee Feild’s 91-point ride from 2008 has been the top ride in Ogden for nearly a decade.

Steer wrestler Curtis Cassidy set two arena records in 2009 – first with his 3.1-second run, which contributed to his 7.6 seconds on two-head average record.

Team roping competition was tight in 2010 as Luke Brown and Martin Lucero, and Bubba Buckaloo and Matt Zancanella both set the arena record of 3.9 seconds. That same year, Buckaloo and Zancanella also set the two-head average record with their total time of 9.1 seconds.

Two records were set in 2011, first by saddle bronc rider Cody Wright with his 91-point ride. As soon as the dust settled from the saddle bronc riding, tie-down roper Jake Hannum hit the arena to make a record-setting 7.3-second time.

None of Ogden’s arena records have lasted longer than barrel racer Lynn McKenzie’s 34-year-old time of 17.10 seconds, set in 1983.

Bull rider Bryan Richardson’s 93-point ride from 2005 will be tough to beat since no bull rider has scored higher than 91.5 points so far during the 2017 season.
