Four-Time PBR World Finals Qualifier Lima Returns to Form, Winning 2021 Aggieland Classic

By: Easton Colvin

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – As fans in College Station, Texas, were treated to their first-ever PBR (Professional Bull Riders) event, Brazilian Paulo Ferreira Lima (Bezerros, Brazil) returned to his four-time PBR World Finals qualifying form with a perfect 3-for-3 weekend, taking home the event win at the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s (PWVT) Aggieland Classic.

After a third-place finish in Round 1 on Friday night courtesy of an 86-point trip on Slim Shady (Rio Vista Rodeo & Equipment), Lima remained perfect through both rounds of competition on Saturday.

Round 2 brought the 33-year-old rider face-to-face with City Slicker (Rafter JML Cattle/Lewallen), and Lima came out on top with another 86-point ride.

Lima drew Breaking Records (H&H Bucking Bulls) in the championship round, and the duo danced until the 8-second whistle. The 86.5-point ride was Lima’s highest score of the weekend and sealed his first Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) win since 2018.

The win added 35.5 world points to Lima’s 2021 totals, moving him to No. 37 in the world rankings.

A newcomer to the U.S. in 2021, Canadian Logan Biever (Claresholm, Alberta, Canada) was the other rider to go a perfect 3-for-3 on the weekend. Finishing just 2.5 points behind Lima, Biever’s 86 points in Round 1 on Friday night courtesy of Mic Drop (UTC/Sellers Bucking Bulls) had him in fourth coming into championship Saturday.

Drawing Texas Ranger (Cannon Cattle Co) in Round 2, Biever made the 8 for a score of 82.5 points. Rip (3J Ranch) provided the bull power for an 87.5-point trip in the championship round, but the score proved too little for the surging Canadian to capture his first PWVT event win.

Biever did collect 25.5 world points for the runner-up finish, moving him 31 spots in the world rankings to No. 46.

Texas’s own Lane Nobles (China Spring, Texas) ended in third place for PBR’s first visit to Aggieland. After sitting out the 2018 and 2019 seasons, Nobles has returned in 2021. He made an 85.5-point ride in Round 1 on the back of Tupac (Dennis Davis Bucking Bulls/Just for Kicks), followed by an 89-point effort on Tannerite (Lightning Livestock, Inc.) in Round 2.

But local bull Lockdown (Dennis Davis Bucking Bulls/Just for Kicks) proved too much in the championship round, where Nobles lasted just 2.72 seconds.

With his best performance so far this season, Nobles picked up 16.5 world points and sits in the No. 61 spot in the world rankings.

Wrangler National Finals qualifier Clayton Sellars (Fruitland Park, Florida) rode his way to fourth in the two-day event. Another cowboy to go 2-for-3, Sellars took care of business on Painted Demon (Halpain Bucking Bulls) on Friday night for 84 points.

Saturday started strong for the Floridian as he bested Lil Willard (Richardson Land & Cattle Co) for 89 points to split the Round 2 win, but the championship round wasn’t as friendly as Keep’em Guessin (UTC/Sellers Bucking Bulls) did just that, dispatching Sellars in 6.9 seconds.

Sellars earned 11.5 world points on the weekend, doubling his 2021 total and moving him to No. 56 in the world.

Luis Blanco (Iacanga, Brazil) was the second-highest finishing Brazilian, landing in fifth. After coming down early in Round 1 on Church Bells (Team Alaska), Blanco rebounded in Round 2 on Black Candy (Frenzel Bucking Bulls) for 84.5 points.

Sneaking into the championship round, Blanco took advantage of the opportunity, starting the round off with an 88-point trip on Stardust (Lightning Livestock, Inc.) to round out the Top 5.

Blanco earned 11 world points, and he is currently No. 48 in the world standings.

The 2021 Aggieland Classic is also a stop on the Million Dollar Bull Team Challenge season. 3J Ranch took home first place on day two, scoring 276.50 points over three outs. Sellers Bucking Bulls/UTC was second with 275.85 points, and Lightning Livestock Inc. third, turning in 275.50 points.

Fans can revisit every out from the 2021 Aggieland Classic on Sunday, April 11 at 8 a.m. ET on RidePass.com or via the RidePass mobile app.

The PWVT returns to action next weekend with the tour’s first-ever visit to Grand Forks, North Dakota, April 16-17.
