Grimes Gains Ground in World Standings

With no circuit rodeos on the horizon in the Columbia River Circuit, Kathy Grimes headed east and it paid off for her this past weekend.

Grimes, who qualified for her first Wrangler NFR in 2017, captured the win at the Westcliffe (Colorado) Stampede Rodeo in a time of 16.49 seconds, ahead of Shelley Morgan and Dona Kay Rule, who tied for second in tie of 16.67 seconds. Grimes of Medical Lake, Washington, pocketed $1,629 for the win. She also added another $1,853 to her bank account with a third place finish at the Ute Stampede in Nephi, Utah. The veterinarian is currently ranked 21st in the world standings with $18,533.

Floridian Sabra O’Quinn made her long drive worthwhile in Nephi, Utah, stopping the clock in a blistering time of 16.86 seconds to take the victory and add $2,647 to her 2020 standings. The Ute Stampede marked the largest payout on the weekend, with Pretty Prairie, Kansas next on the list. 2019 Wrangler NFR qualifier Emily Miller took the win in Pretty Prairie stopping the clock in 16.72 seconds to pocket $2,309.

Brittney Barnett continues to keep her name in the WPRA headlines this time showing her talents in Montana at both Forsyth and Stanford. Barnett took home the barrel racing title from Forsyth in a time of 17.53 seconds, good for $1,066 and finished second in Stanford in a time of 17.39 seconds, just behind Lindsay Kruse, who has dominated the Montana Circuit this season, with a 17.20. Barnett added $733 from Stanford while Kruse added $855.

Rounding out the weekend rodeo action was Maci Ray adding another victory in Mesquite in the barrel racing, while Christi Braudrick won the breakaway roping in a time of 2.5 seconds. First Frontier Circuit standout Christina Mulford has gone three for three thus far this season at the Woodstown, N.J., weekly rodeo series and leads the circuit standings over Jayme Myers, who has finished second all three weekends.
