#InCaseYouMissedIt: Freedom Rings at Cowboy Days, but Hometown Squad Moves Into No. 1 Position

By: Darci Miller

The Carolina Cowboys fell just short of winning their homestand this weekend, but taking over the No. 1 spot in the season standings seems like a pretty good consolation prize. Plus, the Oklahoma Freedom showed up BIG, the Kansas City Outlaws quietly had their best weekend of the season, and more. Miss a moment of the action this weekend? Here’s what happened around the PBR.

On the PBR Team Series…

AUSTIN, DAY 1

The Cowboys won their fifth consecutive game when they opened their hometown event with a W over the Missouri Thunder.

The Freedom kicked things off with a commanding 261-0 victory over the Nashville Stampede featuring Chase Outlaw’s sixth – count ‘em, sixth – career 90-point ride aboard Big Black.

The biggest surprise of the night came from the Outlaws, who upset the then-No. 1 Austin Gamblers.

Two-time World Champion and Gamblers captain Jose Vitor Leme was out with three broken ribs and was unable to help his squad the way he has all season.

The Arizona Ridge Riders got off to a 3-for-5 start in their first game, taking down the Texas Rattlers…

…to move into first place in the season standings.

AUSTIN, DAY 2

After a rough start to the season, the Freedom seemed to have hit their stride on Saturday night, upsetting the Gamblers for their third straight win.

A surprise MVP for the Freedom has been Briggs Madsen, who notched his fourth consecutive ride to help the Freedom to victory.

The Cowboys moved into the No. 1 rank by defeating the Ridge Riders.

Just a few months ago, 2016 World Champion Cooper Davis was seriously contemplating retirement. On Saturday, he was instrumental in the Cowboys’ win.

The Outlaws improved to 2-0 on the weekend with a win over the Rattlers.

This was the first time all season that the Outlaws have won two games in a row, and the young squad is ready to prove itself.

The Thunder and the Stampede went back and forth (and back and forth… and back and forth…), and it was ultimately the Thunder coming out on top.

The Freedom capped their phenomenal weekend with their fourth straight win, defeating the Outlaws to improve to 3-0 and take the event victory.

Chase Outlaw is making sure his teammates have fire in their bellies ahead of the Freedom’s homestand, Freedom Fest, on Sept. 16-18.

An event win on home soil was unfortunately not to be for the Cowboys, who were upset by the Stampede by just 1.5 points.

The Gamblers salvaged their weekend with an 86-0 win over the Ridge Riders thanks to Ramon de Lima…

…who’s the newest member of the squad.

The Rattlers edged the Thunder by 3.5 points to earn their first win of the weekend.

Meanwhile, on the Challenger Series…

Bill Henry went 2-for-2 on the first night of competition in Kennewick, Washington…

…and held on to earn the event win.
