#InCaseYouMissedIt: Freedom Sweep through Freedom Days, Improve to No. 3

By: Darci Miller

What’s better than winning a PBR Team Series event? Winning the PBR Team Series event in your host city. This weekend, the Oklahoma Freedom became the first team ever to do so. Plus, Ezekiel Mitchell rode in memory of his late cousin Ouncie, Chase Outlaw was back to doing Chase Outlaw things and more. Miss a moment of the action this weekend? Here’s what happened around the PBR.

On the PBR Team Series…

OKLAHOMA CITY, DAY 1

The hometown Freedom kicked off the weekend with a dramatic, walk-off win over the Austin Gamblers courtesy of Derek Kolbaba. (Get used to hearing that.)

The No. 1 Carolina Cowboys, meanwhile, opened Freedom Fest with a big win over the No. 2 Arizona Ridge Riders.

Helping to power the Cowboys’ ascent to the top of the standings,2016 World Champion Cooper Davis improved to a flawless 4-for-4 since returning from injury.

The Missouri Thunder were fast out of the gate against the Nashville Stampede and closed strong for a 177-0 victory.

The Thunder had lost six out of their previous seven games heading into Oklahoma City, but Andrew Alvidrez says he just kept his head down and focused on doing his job.

The Texas Rattlers, presented by Ariat, earned a much-needed win to begin Freedom Fest, edging the Kansas City Outlaws by 2.5 points.

OKLAHOMA CITY, DAY 2

Ouncie Mitchell tragically passed away last week, and his cousin Ezekiel Mitchell was on hand in Oklahoma to ride in his memory.

For the second night in a row, the Freedom earned a walk-off win, this time over the Texas Rattlers…

…again, thanks to Derek Kolbaba.

The Ridge Riders notched two 90-point rides on Saturday to defeat the Thunder and move to No. 2 in the season rankings.

After being out for a month to recover from injury, Marco Eguchi was back in the lineup for Arizona and showing what he brings to a team: 91.5-point rides.

The Cowboys continued their momentum with their defeat of the Outlaws, ensuring their game against the Freedom on Sunday would determine the event champion.

The Stampede finally erupted on Saturday, notching three rides to defeat the Gamblers.

OKLAHOMA CITY, DAY 3

Guess what Derek Kolbaba did for the Freedom against the Cowboys on Sunday. Just guess. (Hint: secured the event win with his third straight walk-off ride.)

And then, in the Bonus Round, the Freedom’s Chase Outlaw rode Woopaa for 94.5 points to complete the clean sweep for the hometown team.

The Rattlers earned their first win in Oklahoma City by 2.5 points. They won their last game in Oklahoma City, this time against the Gamblers, by a single point.

The Thunder defeated the Outlaws to close out Freedom Fest with a 2-1 record.

The Ridge Riders and the Stampede, meanwhile, registered the first tie in PBR Team Series history.

Meanwhile, on the Challenger Series…

Bruin Bradshaw was the lone man to go a perfect 2-for-2 in Stockton, California, taking home the win at the Stockton Invitational.
