Lockhart Leads the Way in Round 3 at Wrangler NFR

ARLINGTON, TEXAS – Fan favorite and 14-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier Lisa Lockhart gets the third round win on Saturday night in a time of 17.09 seconds on the WPRA standard pattern.

Lockhart of Oelrichs, S.D., jockeyed Rosas Cantina CC to the victory inside Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Lisa and Rosa didn’t have the start to the 2020 Wrangler NFR they had hoped for knocking the third barrel down in what would have been a winning time. The duo returned to place in the money in the second round and really turned up the heat in the third round finishing on top.

“Tonight’s run was a lot like the first except I got her lined up better and we managed to get around the third barrel,” stated Lockhart. “This sport is a game of inches and we were able to calculate that better tonight to accomplish what we were hoping to.”

Although Lockhart has been to 14 consecutive NFRs with the move to Texas it is like a first time for everyone. No one knew how their horses would handle the conditions but Lockhart had high hopes.

“I was only hoping [that she would like Globe Life Field] because she likes big outdoor pens, so knowing we were going to have wide open space I was very much looking forward it,” said Lockhart about the 10-year old buckskin mare. “She is so fast and loves to turn, which is one of her biggest attributes.”

Lockhart was eighth out on the ground tonight but that didn’t matter to her or Rosa.

“She is as surefooted as a mountain goat,” noted Lockhart. “She is always spot on and I never worry about the ground with her.”

Lockhart entered this year’s NFR ranked 13th but with two rounds in the money she is now sixth with $83,904.

Two-time WPRA World Champion Hailey Kinsel didn’t finish in the money tonight but still holds the lead in the average with a total time of 51.90 seconds on three runs but Shelley Morgan is hot on her heels in a time of 51.98 seconds. Kinsel remains No. 1 in the world with $135,422.

The WPRA Top 15 are not only competing for a gold buckle but also for the Jerry Ann Taylor Best Dressed Award presented by the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. The award winner will receive $5,000 and fans can help decide the winner by voting after each round at www.wpra.com.

Fourth round action gets underway, Sunday, December 5 at 6:45 p.m. CT LIVE on the Cowboy Channel.
