“I got braces and rubber bands put on my jaw to heal it up,” Lockwood said on his social media platforms, “I will be in these anywhere from six to 12 weeks, but I will be returning in Del Rio, Texas here in the next couple weeks to ride. I feel good. Hopefully not going to lose too much weight, but just drinking all my meals.”

Lockwood was injured on his first bull of the 2021 season when he took a horn to the face from Detroit Lean during Round 1 of the PBR Monster Energy Invitational on Jan. 16 after he was bucked off in 2.75 seconds.

The PBR Del Rio Invitational is slated for Feb. 13-14, and when Lockwood returns for that event, he will have only missed two Unleash The Beast events because of his broken jaw.

Lockwood is attempting to join Silvano Alves and Adriano Moraes in the record books and become the third rider in PBR history to win three gold buckles.

There are still nine months remaining in the season and many opportunities for Lockwood to make up any ground he may lose in the world title race.

Current world leader Junior Patrik Souza has 151.5 points through two events, and one rider can earn a maximum of 140 world points at a two-day Unleash The Beast event.

Lockwood has missed 36 premier series events in his career since turning pro in 2016 due to various injuries such as torn groins, a torn hamstring, a lacerated kidney, broken ribs, a punctured lung and shoulder separations. But this broken jaw is just a minor setback compared to his more serious injuries.

“We started off the year a little rough, but we are going to keep at it and give her hell and come back strong,” Lockwood said. “Thank you everyone for the support; I appreciate you all.”
