Meier earns his way back to BFTS

PUEBLO, Colo. – Tampa, Fla., PBR fans watched as Austin Meier (Kinta, Okla.) danced in celebration after winning the Touring Pro Division event at the Tampa Bay Times Forum last Saturday.

Meier earned 85 points to lead the long round, while his 84-point effort in the short go nailed down the victory with 169 points overall and $4,306.10.

Rubens Barbosa (Iaciara, Brazil) placed second with 167.5 points and $3,410.20, while Matt Bohon (Cole Camp, Mo.) took third with 83 points and $1,647.30.

Brenton Chaffin (Riner, Va.) took home $3,763.38 in earnings by picking up 169.5 points and the win at the BlueDef Velocity Tour event in Wheeling, W.V., this past weekend. Chaffin rode for 84 points in the first round and 85.5 points in the short go.

Chad VanAmburg (Archdale, N.C.) landed second place with 84 points in both rounds for 168 points altogether and $2,600.16, while Jay Miller(Liberty, S.C.) ended up third with 162.5 points and $2,258.03.

With their TPD wins, both Meier and Chaffin earned bids to the Built Ford Tough Series Table Mountain Casino Invitational in Fresno, Calif., on March 28-29 at the Save Mart Center. While Meier will be making his return to the BFTS tour, having competed in eight events previously this year, this will be Chaffin’s first appearance of 2014.

The TPD will stop in Pennsylvania, Oklahoma and Nebraska this weekend.

The PBR Wilkes Barre, Pa., Invitational will take place Friday, March 28, and Saturday, March 29, with competition beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET. VanAmburg and Miller are both scheduled to compete.

Barbosa and Bohon are both expected to make an appearance at the Muscogee (Creek) Nation PBR event in Beggs, Okla., on Friday and Saturday, starting at 8 p.m. both nights.

Omaha, Neb., will host Brant Atwood (Pampa, Texas), Zane Cook (Fort Gibson, Okla.) and Zac Peterson (Velva, N.D.), as well as many other PBR bull riders this Saturday and Sunday, as the PBR’s BlueDef Velocity Tour makes a stop at the Century Link Center. Competition will begin at 8 p.m. both nights.
