News & Notes from the Rodeo Trail, May 10

Today, the Phillipsburg (Kan.) Rodeo Association made its annual donation to the Fort Hays (Kan.) State rodeo program. Two members of the FHSU State rodeo team – Brody Davis of Cody, Neb., and Jessi Ross of Falcon, Colo. – each received $500 sponsorships from the Phillipsburg Rodeo Association. Davis, a junior, will graduate in May 2022 with a degree in ag business. A tie-down roper and team roper, he competed in the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association, qualifying for the state high school finals three of his four high school years. Davis has been on the Dean’s List at FHSU. Ross, a sophomore, competes in barrel racing, breakaway roping and team roping. She competed in the Colorado High School Rodeo Association and qualified for the state finals twice. At FHSU, she is studying agribusiness and hopes to be involved in livestock nutrition or livestock insurance. Since 1997, the Phillipsburg Rodeo Association has made an annual donation to the FHSU rodeo program. The Phillipsburg Rodeo Association is the organization behind Kansas’ Biggest Rodeo, which will be Aug. 5-7. For more information on the rodeo, visit KansasBiggestRodeo.com. More than $25,000 has been awarded by the Phillipsburg Rodeo Association to Fort Hays State rodeo team members.


Through a community nomination process, the Greeley (Colo.) Stampede has selected four outstanding individuals to be inducted into the Greeley Stampede Hall of Fame on May 21. This year’s inductees include: Earl Anderson, an influential within the sport of rodeo and the Stampede’s rodeo stock contractor from 1931-58; Nyla Bristow, a former Miss Independence Stampede Queen, a 40-plus-year Wrangler volunteer member, former Miss Rodeo America board member and longtime member of the Miss Rodeo Colorado Board; Harold Evans, a community supporter and a former Greeley Stampede Committee member who was instrumental in the construction of the west arena grandstands project; and Dick Lookhart, a founding member of the Wrangler volunteer organization and a former Greeley Stampede Committee member that was known for spending endless hours supporting the event. To recognize the Hall of Fame inductees, the Greeley Stampede will host a banquet May 21 at Zoe’s Café at 6 p.m. (MT). Individual tickets for the event are $25 or a table of eight for $160. The Buffalo (Minn.) PRCA Championship Rodeo will continue giving back to the Buffalo community in 2021. For more than six decades civic organizations, nonprofits and youth have benefited financially from the rodeo. Fundraising is done by local Boy Scout, Cub Scout and Girl Scout troops working concession trailers selling hot dogs, burgers, soda and popcorn during the rodeo performances. Additionally, financial support has been received by the Buffalo Lions, the Buffalo Food Shelf, the American Legion, Buffalo Hospital Foundation-Allina Health, Wright County 4-H Clubs, Minnesota High School Rodeo Association, area nonprofits and academic scholarships. The Buffalo PRCA Championship Rodeo is scheduled for June 24-26 and will provide all children free admission June 24.
