News & Notes from the Rodeo Trail, May 4

Luke Brown and Joseph Harrison might not be team roping partners, but they continue to win as though they are.

Brown and Harrison, who won The American together, each advanced in the first round of their respective events in the Digital Rodeo Tournament presented by The Cowboy Channel. And they did so convincingly.

Brown, the No. 1 seed in team roping heading, earned nearly 90% of the vote, while Harrison, atop the heeling bracket, advanced to the quarterfinals with 83.8%.

Brown was joined by higher seeds in every matchup in the heading competition. No upsets happened, with the closest battle being No. 3 Dustin Egusquiza edging No. 14 Levi Simpson with 53.1% of the vote.

The favorites didn’t have an easy time of it in the heeling. While Harrison advanced easily as a higher seed, four lower seeds moved on to the quarterfinals in the heeling, including defending world champion Wesley Thorp. With 61.6% of the vote, Thorp, the No. 11 seed, defeated No. 6 Jake Long.

Up next in the final events for first-round competition is barrel racing and bull riding. You can vote on those events at prorodeo.com. Voting closes at 5 p.m. (ET), May 7.

Tuf Cooper, a four-time PRCA world champion, three in tie-down roping (2011-12, and 2014) and one in all-around (2017), will use some of his free time to interact with ProRodeo fans at 7 p.m. (ET), May 1 on the PRCA Facebook page (@PRCAProRodeo).
