North America’s Top Cutting Horses Showcase Their Skills at Stampede Park

Calgary – Experience the skill and agility of the top cutting horses in North America as they compete at the Calgary Stampede Cutting Horse Futurity, presented by Wrangler. Taking place Wednesday, October 16 – Sunday, October 20, 2019 in the Nutrien Western Event Centre, this free, family friendly event is a unique opportunity to enjoy and learn more about one of the fastest growing equine sports.

The highlight of this high-energy competition is the Saturday night Cut of the West on October 19 starting at 6:30 p.m., with a pre-show beginning at 6 p.m. Offering free admission to the public, the evening features the championship in the Open Derby Final, as well as the Open Classic/Challenge Final. New to the Saturday night competition, the Bill Collins Youth Showcase will feature five young riders from across western Canada. You can also experience the sport for yourself through a brand new virtual reality experience!

For those unfamiliar with the sport of Cutting, a horse and rider are faced with a herd of cattle and two and a half minutes on the clock. Working together they must select, or cut, a single cow from of the herd. The rider then drops the reins and it’s up to the horse to use its instincts and agility to keep the cow from returning to the herd. ‘Smart Bud’ listening technology will be available for those who wish to listen to expert commentary and insight on each run.
