PBR Pick ‘Em Morning Line – Jacksonville Round 1

By: Slade Long

Chase Dougherty on 6X4 Walking Tall:

By the numbers, this is a pretty tough bull to ride, but he may be a better draw than his record shows. Walking Tall has a lot of up and down and a slower spin. He’s similar to Sky Harbor and could be a great fit for Dougherty.

Matt Triplett on 4596 Dang It:

This bull is the best draw in the round for most riders here in terms of probability of a qualified ride. Although his overall buckoff percentage is 73%, at the UTB level, that falls off drastically to 20%. He’s kind of a gatekeeper bull. Anyone who can succeed consistently at UTB events should succeed against him. He likes the left, but he can be ridden by right-handers as well. Triplett rode him for 86.5 points back in 2018.

Cooper Davis on 626 Experiment:

Experiment is 7-1 in his career and 3-0 against right-handed riders, but Davis has a really good shot. Colten Jesse was 87.25 points on this bull last season, and the bull went to the right with him. If he has the same trip, Davis will handle him easily.

Kaique Pacheco on 6C Troll:

Pacheco is coming off a stellar event in Billings. He would be dominating the world standings right now if it weren’t for having to compete with Jose Vitor Leme, who is on pace to become the best rider of all time. This bull is a bit of an unknown quantity. We do know he’s hard to ride. He competed exclusively on the rodeo trail up until this year. Since coming to the UTB level, he’s thrown off Mason Taylor, J.B. Mauney and Jess Lockwood, all rather quickly.

Mason Taylor on S614 Get Nasty:

We haven’t seen Taylor since March because of injury. He has a good bull to come back on. Get Nasty only has three outs on record, but he’s been ridden twice. He will probably go to the left, but Taylor is pretty solid on bulls that go away from his hand.

Caic Cassio Carvalho on 630 Patillo Ridge:

As we saw in Billings, this guy is a threat on any bull that goes into his hand, and this bull is likely to do that. Patillo Ridge is not a very well-known bull, but he’s out of a left-hand delivery, and the couple of times he’s been ridden, it was by left-handed riders.

Michael Lane on 656 Super Duper:

Super Duper is 2-3 against right-handed riders, and he brings the lowest power rating of any bull in this round, meaning he’s possibly the least difficult bull here. Lane has struggled against UTB-level bulls, but he’s pretty consistent at the lower levels, and this bull is similar to what he would normally face there.

Jose Vitor Leme on 621 Walks Far:

On paper, this matchup gives Leme the lowest probability of a qualified ride that he could have drawn in this round. Walks Far is 9-0 in his career and 6-0 against top-tier riders. He has bucked off Joao Ricardo Vieira and J.B. Mauney this season. If you were looking for a time to pick the bull over Leme, this could be it, but the safest bet is always picking Leme because he wins more often than not.

Cody Teel on 809 Old Fort Days:

Teel has been on this bull once and made it to 7.85 seconds. Old Fort Days is one of the hardest bulls to ride in the business. The bulls that outrank him in difficulty are mostly PBR legends such as Mick E. Mouse and Bushwacker. He’s 41-1 in his career for a buckoff percentage of 97.56%. He is not the highest-scoring bull around. It’s unlikely that Teel would be able to win the round on him, but just getting a score would be a major feat for any rider, and Teel is a worthy opponent for one of the most difficult bulls around.

Mauricio Moreira on 269 Fish Camp:

This bull has been around for a few years, but he hasn’t been that active. He was a World Finals short-round bull a couple of years ago. He is originally a Canadian bull who now lives in South Florida, so his winters are much improved. Fish Camp likes to go left, and Moreira has a chance going into his hand.
