PRCA for the Record: Ogden

By Matt Naber

The first Ogden (Utah) Pioneer Days was held in 1934 to entice tourists to visit. As the festival grew, so did the rodeo’s notoriety, and by 1957 Ogden was added to the ProRodeo schedule, leading many of the biggest names in professional rodeo to visit the scenic mountain town.

Ogden’s longest, still-standing record was set by bull rider Bryan Richardson with his 93-point ride on Classic Pro Rodeo’s Shakedown in 2005.

Richardson was a three-time qualifier for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (2002-03, 2005) with $650,696 in career earnings from 2000-12. The Dallas cowboy racked up wins across the country including the Cody (Wyo.) Stampede in 2005 and 2012, the Greeley (Colo.) Stampede in 2006, and Rodeo Austin (Texas) in 2007.

Richardson maintains one of the highest-scored rides in the Xtreme Bulls Tour with his 95-point ride on Andrew’s Rodeo’s Cat Daddy in Guthrie, Okla., in 2005. Several others have scored 95 points at Xtreme Bulls events. Only J.W. Harris has scored higher at an Xtreme Bulls event with his 96-point ride on Flying U Rodeo’s Werewolf in Reno, Nev., in 2006.

Cowboys have from July 19-24 to top the highest scores and fastest times in Ogden’s record book, which dates to 1957, while also earning valuable ProRodeo Tour points.
