PRCA Weekly Recap: Aug. 31 through Sept. 7

ProRodeo athletes took a rain check on celebrating Labor Day.

Rather than kicking back and relaxing, they were competing at the 14 ProRodeo competitions held Aug. 31 through Sept. 7, several of which involved heavy rainfall, but the $800,745 in collective prize money made it all worthwhile.

The highest scores and fastest runs of the week showed how determined cowboys were to win. While these rides and runs might not always make the record book, they make a lasting memory for fans and competitors.

With hundreds of PRCA competitions across the Western Hemisphere, there are plenty of opportunities to make a memorable ride. Although the prize money differs from one competition to the next, the judging remains consistent across the board.

In addition to the fame that comes with winning the most prize money, each ride was a chance to be the best of the week. Here’s a look at the highest scores and fastest times for each event held Aug. 31 through Sept. 7.

Bareback rider Orin Larsen won the Yellowstone Riggin Rally in Darby, Mont., with a 92.5-point ride on Brookman Rodeo’s Famous Dex, Sept. 7.

Larsen’s 92.5-point ride ties for the third-highest scored ride of the season so far. Larsen also scored 92.5 points on Pickett Pro Rodeo’s Uncapped at the Dodge City (Kan.) Roundup Rodeo, Aug. 2. The top bareback riding scores so far belong to Tim O’Connell (94 points) and Kaycee Feild (93 points).

Steer wrestler Curtis Cassidy made a 3.3-second run to win the Dillon (Mont.) Jaycees PRCA Rodeo-Montana’s Biggest Weekend, Sept. 6.

Team ropers Kaleb Driggers and Cory Petska stopped the clock in 3.8 seconds to win the Iron County Fair and PRCA Rodeo in Parowan, Utah, Sept. 7.

Saddle bronc rider Wade Sundell registered a 90-point ride on Sankey Pro Rodeo & Phenom Genetics’ Marquee to win the Magic Valley Stampede in Filer, Idaho, Sept. 3.

Two tie-down ropers won their respective rodeos with 7.5-second runs on Sept. 7, Ryan Jarrett at Evanston (Wyo.) Cowboy Days and Zach Jongbloed in Parowan.

Barrel racer Jill Wilson won the Jim Shoulders Living Legends Pro Rodeo in Henryetta, Okla., with a 14.99-second run, Sept. 5.

Steer roper Landon McClaugherty’s 8.9-second run during the second round of the Big Timber (Mont.) Weekly Rodeo helped him win the average with 21.2 seconds on two head, Sept. 2.

Two bull riders split the win in Filer with 91.5-point rides – Daylon Swearingen on Sankey Pro Rodeo & Phenom Genetics’ Hy Test, Sept. 3, and Ty Wallace on Sankey Pro Rodeo & Phenom Genetics’ Hou’s Counting, Sept. 5.
