PRCA Weekly Recap: Jade Blackwell Scores Top Ride in Minot

Jade Blackwell is no stranger to the RAM Badland Circuit Finals Rodeo. He’s qualified for the event in Minot, N.D., nine times, but this year proved to stick out above the rest.

Aboard Sutton Rodeos’ South Point, Blackwell put together an 86-point ride to win the second round at the circuit final. His score tied Cree Minkhoff for the top saddle bronc score of the week (Oct.4- Oct.10).

He said it was matchup he was looking forward to after taking South Point to the pay window three times in 2019.

“That’s a really great horse I think this is the seventh or eighth time I’ve drawn that horse,” said Blackwell, 28. “That’s honestly my favorite horse in the whole PRCA. So, I was pretty fortunate and pretty lucky to have him there in Minot (N.D.) this weekend.”

The winning ride on Oct.9 secured Blackwell his first-year end title in the Badlands Circuit, he won the finals average in 2018. It’s an event he looks forward to qualifying for and competing in every year.

“I’ve been to nine Badlands Circuit Finals in my career,” Blackwell said. “I always enjoy the circuit finals it’s one of my favorite rodeos to go to during the year. Some of your best friends are up there and you don’t have to get in the pickup and drive anywhere. You just get to hangout in town and get on three head. I always try to make it a point to make the circuit finals every year.”

This past season Blackwell finished 41st in the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $29,447. He said he’ll treat the 2022 season just like any other with the goal of making the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

“We’re going to go pretty hard in 2022 and try to make the NFR like we do every year,” he said. “I’m going to keep going with it. I love riding bucking horses, so I’m not going to slow down anytime soon.”
