PRCA Weekly Recap: July 27 Through Aug. 2

Some of the highest scores of the 2020 season were fueled by more than $1 million in prize money that was on the table across 12 ProRodeo competitions held July 27 through Aug. 2.

Two ProRodeo Tour events offered payouts in excess of $100,000, the Dodge City (Kan.) Roundup Rodeo ($401,285) and Kansas’ Biggest Rodeo in Phillipsburg ($159,135).

Although the number of ProRodeo competitions are down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, entries are on the rise and that creates a larger total payout. The payout at Iowa’s Championship Rodeo in Sidney increased by 90.6%, from $72,820 in 2019 to $138,792 on Aug. 1.

The fastest times and highest scores might not always make the record book, but they make a lasting memory for fans and competitors. With hundreds of PRCA competitions across the Western Hemisphere, there are plenty of opportunities to make a memorable ride.

Although the prize money differs from one competition to the next, the judging remains consistent across the board.

In addition to the fame that comes with winning the most prize money, each ride was a chance to be the best of the week. Here’s a look at the highest scores and fastest times for each event held July 27 through Aug. 2.

For the second time this summer, bareback rider Orin Larsen achieved the highest-scored ride of the week. Larsen posted a 92.5-point ride on Pickett Rodeo’s Uncapped in Dodge City, Aug. 2.
