PRCA Weekly Recap: Riley Duvall Lays Down Top Steer Wrestling Run

It wasn’t until the final week of the 2021 ProRodeo season that steer wrestler Riley Duvall punched his ticket to his fourth Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. He knows how to put together a fast run when it counts most and that’s exactly what he did last week.

Duvall clocked his fastest time of the season so far with the 3.3-second run at the 101 Wild West Rodeo in Ponca City, Okla., which was also good enough to be the quickest run this week (June 6-12) in the PRCA.

“Out of all the rodeos out there Ponca City has always been good to me,” said Duvall, 30. I think I’ve won it twice and finished second twice.”

The win in Ponca City earned Duvall $2,076 towards the PRCA | RAM World Standings, where he currently sits 26th with $21,232 won in 2022. He was quick to credit the horse he was riding for the victory in his home state.

“I was riding Trever Nelson’s horse (Dr Pepper) in Ponca City,” he said. “He was great, and I did have an outstanding steer, which always helps.”

He said a payday like that can only help a cowboy with momentum and confidence headed into the Fourth of July and summer run.

“Anything you can win before Reno (Nev.) is great. The season kind of starts there for most guys,” Duvall said. “To get wins like that before hand sure is nice, especially because it’s in my circuit and we only get to go to 15 circuit rodeos this year. So, I needed to get all I could and that one helps a lot.”

With a truck full of fellow steer wrestlers, he’s ready to attack the remainder of the ProRodeo season head on.

“Our horses are working great, and we have a bunch of young guys in the rig who are hungry and ready to get after it,” he said. “I couldn’t be more excited for it.”
