PRCA Weekly Recap: Riley Webb Pushing the Pace as Season Nears End

At 19 years old Riley Webb is competing in his first full season of ProRodeo and while he might be a rookie, he’s roping like a savvy veteran this September.

The Denton, Texas, tie-down roper posted the fastest run in the PRCA this week with his 7.5-second time at the Magic Valley Stampede in Filer, Idaho. The run not only won him the rodeo but put $4,634 in his pocket.

“I had a pretty good calf and just tried to score sharp that run,” said Webb, who leads the Resistol Rookie of the Year race. “It was in the slack after the rodeo, about 2 o’clock in the morning, but it’s crunch time at the end of the season. So, you have to be ready whenever you get to run a good calf.”

Since Aug. 16, Webb has earned $34,685, bumping him up to 13th in the latest PRCA | RAM World Standings. He said he tries not to look at the standings as the season goes on but acknowledged it’s hard not to at this time of the year.

“I try not to (look at the standings), but every once in a while, you take a look at them just to see where you sit,” he said. “But it’s not something I’m worrying about checking every night.”

Webb is trying to punch his ticket to his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo this December in Las Vegas. Just 24 days remain in the 2022 ProRodeo regular season, which means every run becomes just that much more important.

“You really can’t put added pressure on yourself,” Webb said. “You just have to try to do the best you can every time you back into the box. I just have to try to stay sharp and finish the year out strong.”
