Reno Rodeo’s Mike Lucke Passes

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Michael H. Lucke on July 19, 2020. Mike passed while enjoying the outdoors with his wife Wynn, of 38 years.

Mike was born May 15, 1954 to Susan and Herbert Lucke in Reno, Nevada. He owned and operated “Lucke’s Saloon”, for 45 years, a Reno landmark. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He left a legacy of community service through Reno Rodeo beginning in 1981 and by serving on many rodeo boards. He was honored as the Justin Committeeman of the Year in 2004, and was granted PRCA Gold Card Status in 2005, he was arena director for many years and was Reno Rodeo President in 2011. His introduction of “We Rodeo for the Kids,” was instrumental in raising awareness to the innovative ways to support Reno Rodeo. His dedication to the Reno Rodeo was never ending, devoting his time and energy to make it a gem in the world of Rodeo.

He is survived by his wife, Wynn; daughter Megan (Jared) Worthen, grandsons Wade, Bryson; his uncle Joe (Ruth) Adamson; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and so many “Lucke” friends, too numerous to count.

A celebration of life was held on August 1, 2020 where his legacy was honored by the city of Reno with a proclamation of “Mike” Lucke Day, with many family and friends attending in person and by zoom. We look forward to honoring Mike again with a Celebration of Life the week of Reno Rodeo 2021 at Lucke’s Saloon.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Reno Rodeo Legacy Project or the Reno Rodeo Foundation, P.O. Box 12335, Reno, NV 89510.
