Rogers Goes 3-for-3 to Win Reno Rumble

By: Mandi McCary

RENO, Nev. – Saturday night inside of the Reno Events Center was electric as fans were treated to night two of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s (PWVT) Reno Rumble.

As the dust settled, Wyatt Rogers (Coweta, Oklahoma) emerged victorious as one of only two cowboys to go 3-for-3 over the weekend.

After a 15th place finish in Round 1 on Friday night courtesy of a less than ideal 79.5-point ride on Rude Awakening (Rafter JML Cattle), Rogers was perfect through both rounds of competition on Saturday.

The 25-year-old matched up with CB (Julio Moreno/ Schott Bucking Bulls) earlier in the evening in Round 2 and made the 8 for a solid 85-point ride score.

In the championship round, Rogers rocketed from the chutes aboard Tin Star (Julio Moreno/ Schott Bucking Bulls), and fans roared as his second 85-point score of the night was announced.

The win earned the Oklahoma cowboy 34.66 world points.

Missouri’s Bob Mitchell (Steelville, Missouri) was the only other man to cover three bulls to collect a second-place finish. Mitchell successfully rode Slim Shady (Rafter JML Cattle) for 82 points in Round 2 before being matched up with Rag Doll (Tom Baker Bucking Bulls) in the final round.

The championship matchup didn’t go as planned when Mitchell’s ride score was a low 77 points.

Despite the setback, Mitchell collected 23 world points.

Friday night’s co-Round 1 winner, Matt Triplett (Canton, South Dakota) finished in third place overall for the weekend after going 2-for-3.

In Round 2, the seven-time PBR World Finals qualifier made the 8 aboard Zacchaeus (Topline Steel Buildings) for a solid 87.5 points, but he was then bucked off of Hollywood (TDS/Buentello Bucking Bulls) at 7.93 seconds in the championship round.

Triplett leaves northern Nevada with 19.5 world points for his efforts.

California’s Aaron Williams (Pismo Beach. California) began the weekend on fire after a fourth-place tie in Round 1. However, Saturday night did not go as planned for the rugged 25-year-old.

After being dispatched by Homeboy (Topline Steel Buildings) in 4.88 seconds in Round 2, Williams was then paired with Speck (JQH Bucking Bulls-Skip & Elaine Jones) to record an 87-point ride score.

Williams 2-for-3 performance helped him leave Reno with 14.25 world points for his fourth-place finish.

Casey Coulter (Kirksville, Missouri) rounded out the Top 5 of the Reno Rumble going 2-for-3.

After he too tied for fourth in Round 1, Coulter began Saturday night aboard Orca (Yount Bucking Bulls, LLC) and bested the powerful bovine to receive 86.5 points.

Coulter was no match for White Squirrel (Team Wyatt) in the championship round, being flung to the dirt after just 4.57 seconds.

For his efforts the Missouri man received 7.25 world points.

The Reno weekend was also the first stop on the 2022 Million Dollar Bull Team Challenge. Rafter JML Cattle took home first place, scoring 271.45 points, while Sho-Me Rodeo collected a second-place finish with 269.77.

The talented bull riders of the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour will next head to Denver, Colorado for the Denver PBR Chute Out at The National Western Stock Show Jan. 10-12.
