Rule, Lockhart Move Up in World Standings with Profitable Weekend
Dona Kay Rule and 2019 Purina Horse of the Year High Valor continue to make headlines with their latest highlights coming with big wins in Baker and Circle, Montana. They also secured a third place finish in Douglas, Wyoming over the weekend.
“The rodeo trail has led us to Montana and Wyoming this week,” noted Rule on her Facebook page. “Valor and I won Circle and Baker, MT. We placed third at Douglas, WY. Thank you to the rodeo committees, volunteers, and ground crews. We sure appreciate all your efforts. Thank you to my partners who help us down the road.”
Rule’s biggest win came in Baker, Montana with a 16.08-second run, ahead of Jessica Routier with a 16.26. Rule added $5,063 to her 2020 standings which moved her to just within the top 5 with just a little over a month left in the regular season. Rule and Valor also took the victory lap in Circle, Montana, in a time of 14.81 seconds, just a tick ahead of 13-time NFR qualifier Lisa Lockhart with a 14.82-second run.
Lockhart started the week ranked 15th but after a profitable week moved to just outside the Top 10 (currently ranked 11th) as the season draws to a close. Lockhart finished fourth in Baker, Montana, in a time of 16.38 seconds and won the rodeo in Douglas, Wyoming in a time of 16.90 seconds. Rule was third in Douglas with a 17.26.
Lockhart went to the pay window at each of the rodeos she competed at this week starting in Circle, then Baker and finished up in Douglas and pocketed over $5,300.
“It’s one of my favorite times of the year to go to the ‘fair’ rodeos, especially my hometown of Circle, MT where I get to see family and friends,” Lockhart wrote on Facebook. “I have such an awesome support system, and for all athletes in all disciplines, a support system is EVERYTHING! Life out on the road is hard sometimes ad our support teams keep fueling our fires.”
Tiany Schuster and Show Mance set a new arena record in Jerome, Idaho, stopping the clock in 16.97 seconds and added $1,473 to their 2020 standings. Schuster is currently ranked 10th and looking for her second NFR qualification. A full recap of her record run aboard Show Mance will be in the September issue of the WPRA News.
