Sage Kimzey Wins Third Xtreme Bulls Tour Title in a Row

By Tracy Renck

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Sage Kimzey remains the king of PRCA’s Division 1 Xtreme Bulls Tour.

The star from Strong City Okla., won his fourth Xtreme Bulls Tour title in five years – and third in a row – with his performance Saturday night at the Xtreme Bulls Tour Finale.

Kimzey clinched his latest season title by placing second in the two-head average with 168.5 points. Kimzey earned $21,015 Saturday night to finish atop the season Division 1 Xtreme Bulls standings with $88,348.

“This is pretty special for sure,” said Kimzey about being the Xtreme Bulls Tour champion again. “The XBulls are really important to the world standings, NFR, everything. They are premier events so to say, besides the major rodeos. To have some success at the Xtreme Bulls it helps everything, not only the bank account but also the standings. It is also a good time because you get the top 40 bull riders in the world together and you have great bulls.”

Jordan Spears won the Xtreme Bulls Tour Finale with 173 points on two head. Spears earned $27,410 for his Finale victory. Spears also win the XBulls Finale in 2017 and earned an all-time Xtreme Bulls one-stop win amount with a $39,386 payday.

Since the Xtreme Bulls Tour started in 2003, Kanin Asay (2007 and 2012) was the only rider other than Kimzey to win more than one Xtreme Bulls year-end title. Kimzey also has three career victories in Ellensburg (2014-15 and 2018) and now this runner-up performance.

Kimzey has now earned $344,149 in the Xtreme Bulls Tour over his career, a PRCA record. His 2019 season total of $88,348 was a career-best for Kimzey and second only to the $119,584 Matt Austin earned when he was crowned the Xtreme Bulls Tour champ in 2005.

“To have success in the Xtreme Bulls when your knocking heads with the best guys and really good bulls is always great,” Kimzey said. “I definitely respect the fact that I’m in the history books for that, no doubt.”

Kimzey had an 82.5-point ride on Flying 5 Rodeo’s Bad Romance in the long round.

“He was a nice bull, and he went to the right and he was a good bull and he got me a date to the prom for the short round,” he said.

Kimzey followed that up with an 86-point trip on Outlaw Buckers Home Grown in the finals.

“That was a really nice bull,” Kimzey said. “I’ve seen him a lot this year since I’ve been trying to get my Canadian count and I was really glad to have him because he’s a smooth bull to ride that bucks real hard and he worked for me (Saturday night).”

Kimzey also is leading the latest PRCA | RAM World Standings with $198,280. He has won five consecutive world championships. The PRCA regular season ends Sept. 30.

“To come in here and get and get a big chunk of change helps me start September out on the right foot,” Kimzey said. “We are on the homestretch now and I want to keep the ball rolling.”
