Shawn Davis to be Inducted Into Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame

Shawn Davis has had many honors during his decorated rodeo career and he will add another one June 17. Davis is being inducted into the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nev.

Davis will be joined in the 2022 Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame class with Larry Brown, Glen Gondrezick, Ryan Ludwick, DeMarco Murray and Amy Purdy.

Davis gained his rodeo notoriety in Nevada by serving as the general manager of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo from 1986-2018.

Davis was a major proponent of moving the NFR from Oklahoma City, Okla., to Las Vegas.

“The most exciting time of my rodeo career came when the decision I was faced with (as the president of the PRCA) to move the NFR,” Davis said. “No matter which way I went I had a large group that wasn’t going to be in favor of the move. The third year when all those seats were sold, I think that was probably the highlight of my rodeo career.”

The Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas has been the home of the NFR from 1985-2019 and 2021. Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, hosted the 2020 NFR because of COVID-19 restrictions in the state of Nevada.

“It is always great to be appreciated and recognized for the accomplishment (of moving the NFR to Las Vegas),” said Davis about his induction into the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame. “I do get a majority of the recognition but there are lots and lots of people who spent lots of time in making this happen.”

Davis, a three-time PRCA World Champion Saddle Bronc Rider in 1965, 1967-68, was inducted into the inaugural class of the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 1979 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
