Star Bareback Horse Scarlet’s Web Passes Away

Tilden Hooper, Scarlett’s Web, Pete Carr’s Classic Pro Rodeo

Star bareback horse Scarlet’s Web out of the Pete Carr Pro Rodeo stable passed away Sept. 26. She was 19.

“That horse bucked every time, bucked the right way and gave cowboys the opportunity to showcase their riding ability,” Pete Carr said. “That’s why they always put her in the 10th round and why they won so many go-rounds on her.”

Scarlet’s Web was selected to compete in 13 Wrangler National Finals Rodeos – 2007-2019. Cowboys won six rounds on her at the Wrangler NFR – 2007, Round 6 (90 points); 2008, Round 10 (90 points); 2012, Round 5 (88.5 points); 2013, Round 10 (86.5 points); 2017, Round 10 (88 points); and 2018, Round 10 (89.5 points).

Tilden Hooper won on Scarlet’s Web at the NFR in 2008 and 2018.

“That was a great horse,” said Hooper, who is headed to his seventh NFR in December. “In 2008, that was my first NFR and I won on her, and then to come back a decade later and be able to win on her again was special. Those are the best horses in the world, and that speaks volumes about that horse.

“She was the kind you wanted to ride. She went out there and gave you a chance to win first every time. She was going to leave hard and finish strong and get up in the air and give you a chance to show off and make the best ride you can. She felt like how you want one to feel if you could dream it up as a bareback rider.”

Scarlet Web’s competed in Round 6 of the 2019 Wrangler NFR at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Tim O’Connell had an 88-point trip on her to finish fourth in the round and earn $11,000. Clint Laye had an 85-ride on Scarlet’s Web in Round 10 and she was retired.

“She was easy going,” Carr said. “She would just roll in there and do her job and she loved to buck. She was one of those horses who was one in a million that you come across, and I will probably never have another one like her. Everybody loved Scarlet, and everybody wanted to get on Scarlet. She was going to give you every opportunity she could to let you make a great ride and win a bunch of money. Those are the kind of horses guys want to come get on every day.”
