Swearingen Hoists First Unleash the Beast Buckle With Chicago Invitational Win

CHICAGO – One of PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) brightest young stars, Daylon Swearingen (Piffard, New York), the No. 3 finisher in the 2019 Rookie of the Year race, demonstrated perfection on the dirt with a 3-for-3 performance and his career-first Unleash The Beast (UTB) event win at the Chicago Invitational.
Swearingen started his climb to the top of the leaderboard in Round 1, where he finished fourth after conquering Invizibull Fire (Cord McCoy/Bruce Wold) for 87.75 points.
Once again in Round 2 the 20-year-old bested his bovine counterpart, Thunder On Hooves (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Heald Pro Bulls), this time for 86 points and another fourth-place round finish.
As the leader heading into the championship round, the New York native who won the PBR Canada title in 2019 shortly after he became the youngest cowboy to ever qualify for both the NFR and PBR World Finals in the same season, got first dibs on the best bulls of the event, selecting Big Black (K-C Bucking Bulls/Joe & Nina Webb).
Taking the last out of the night, Swearingen swarmed Big Black, showing complete control. The effort was recognized by the judges for 91.75 points. The first 90-point ride of the season for Swearingen catapulted the sophomore cowboy to his first UTB event title with an aggregate score of 265.5 points.
Swearingen earned $37,475 and 115.5 world points with his career-best finish, and is now No. 3 in the world standings.
The 2018 World Champion Kaique Pacheco (Itabia, Brazil) continued his perfect 2020 UTB season with a 3-for-3 performance. Pacheco is now 7-for-7 in premier series action through two events.
After covering Ghost Rider (Phenom Genetics/Sankey Pro Rodeo) for 87 points and a seventh-place finish in Round 1, the Ice Man had Sniper (M Rafter E Bucking Bulls/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve) in Round 2. The 86.25-point effort in Round 2 earned Pacheco a third-place finish, and the No. 2 spot in the event heading into the championship round.
Selecting American Gangster (C Check Bucking Bulls) in the championship round draft, the Brazilian earned his first 90-point ride of 2020 with 90.25 points when he heard the 8-second whistle.
Pacheco finished four points behind Swearingen, and his 261.5-point aggregate score rewarded him with $17,300 and 68 world points. The former World Champion leap frogged Joao Ricardo Vieira (Itantinga, Brazil) to become the new world No. 1. Pacheco’s lead on Vieira is now 30.5 points.
Claudio Montanha Jr. (Pacaembu Sao Paulo, Brazil) rounded out the Top 3 with his 3-for-3 performance.
Inferno (K-C Bucking Bulls/Spark-Lin Acres) gave Montanha 87 points in Round 1 as the Brazilian made the 8.
In Round 2 Montanha came face-to-face with Handsome Jeff (Jo Z Bucking Bulls/K Bar C), but prevailed for 84.75 points.
In the championship round, the 30-year-old matched with Midnight Rain (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Staci Wilks/N Bar Ranch). The result was an 87.75-point handling by Montanha, giving him an aggregate score of 259.5 points for the third-place finish.
Montanha earned $9,450 and 54 world points, moving him to No. 45 in the world standings.
Back-to-back runner up for the World Championship Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil) finished fourth on the weekend.
A 2-for-3 performance that included second-place round finishes in Round 1 with 88.25 points on Lil’ Man (Phenom Genetics/Sankey Pro Rodeo/Good’s Bucking Bulls) and the championship round with 91.25 points aboard Smooth Wreck (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Diamond Willow) earned Leme 36.5 world points and $11,375.
Leme is now the sole owner of the No. 6 spot in the world standings, leading No. 7 Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla Washington) by 13.5 points.
UTB rookie Bradley Brittain (Odessa, Texas) showed his skill in his premier series debut, going a perfect 3-for-3 on the dirt in Chicago. Brittain had earned his way to the Windy City with a win in Oakland, California, on the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour.
In his first UTB out, Brittain made the 8 aboard Uno (Cord McCoy/John & Shelly Cadzow) in Round 1, and was marked 81.75 points.
Then the Texan heard the whistle while taming Tulsa Time (C Check Bucking Bulls) in Round 2 for 82.75 points.
Wrapping up his premier series debut on Hy Test (Phenom Genetics/Sankey Pro Rodeo) with an 85-point effort in the championship round, Brittain earned $3,500 and 30 world points. He is now No. 262 in the world standings.
The bovine athletes provided plenty of scoring power for the toughest athletes on planet earth this weekend, with 2019 YETI World Champion Bull Smooth Operator (Dakota Rodeo/Julie Rosen/Clay Struve/Chad Berger) leading the way with a 46.75-point out, ditching Ezekiel Mitchell (Rockdale, Texas) in two seconds in the championship round.

Elsewhere in the PBR, as the dust settled at the third Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) event of the 2020 season, the sold-out crowd inside of the Reno Downtown Events Center roared on Saturday night as Jake Lockwood (Volborg, Montana) hoisted the gold buckle high to celebrate his career-first PWVT event win.
Mere hours after his older brother, two-time PBR world champion Jess Lockwood, won Round 1 of the Chicago Invitational almost 2,000 miles to the east, the younger Lockwood went a perfect 3-for-3 in Reno to further the family legacy.
Following a Round 1 win on Friday night, the Montana native recorded an 85-point ride aboard Big Jake (CBT 2) in Saturday’s Round 2. As the gate swung open in the championship round, Lockwood fired out of the chutes determined to make the 8 aboard Sledge Hammer (Flip’em Buck’en Bulls/ Knapp). He recorded an 86-point score as the crowd inside the Reno Events Center erupted. The win earned him 43.66 world points and a $6,500 paycheck.
In addition to winning the Reno event, Lockwood has also earned an invite to the upcoming Unleash The Beast Wrangler Long Live Cowboys Classic in Sacramento on Jan. 24-26 where he will compete alongside his brother.
