The Morning Line – Sioux Falls Round 2

By: Slade Long

Cody Jesus on 027 Concealed Carry:

This is sort of a match made in heaven. Concealed Carry is a sweet draw for lefties, and Jesus is great on bulls that go into his hand. Plus, they’ve met before. Jesus was 93.5 points on this bull at a non-PBR event way back in 2017. He’s not likely to be that many this time, but he could be enough to win the round.

Jess Lockwood on 520C @PBR on TikTok:

This is a better draw than Lockwood had in the first round. TikTok can go either way, but he likes to fake left and go right. He doesn’t have many tricks, and the top riders tend to get along with him.

Cooper Davis on 622 High Brow Cat:

Not sure what kind of shape Davis is in after a bad wreck last night, but he has one of the better bulls in the round here. High Brow Cat has mostly been on the rodeo trail for the last couple of years, but he’s given up some huge rides. Stetson Wright won the San Antonio Rodeo on him in February, and Clayton Sellars won Spanish Fork, Utah on him last summer. He isn’t an easy bull to ride, but Davis is certainly capable of getting the job done.

Jose Vitor Leme on 312B Oney:

This is a relatively new bull, but he should be a slam dunk for Leme. Joao Ricardo Vieira was 88.75 points on him in Glendale, Arizona, and Oney spun to the left and was really nice. Leme made a hard-to-ride bull look easy in Round 1. This bull will be much nicer for him. Leme is sitting second right now, and with an easy (for him) bull in Round 2, he could be set to gain ground on the world leaders who didn’t get their first bull ridden.

Derek Kolbaba on 761 Bushwacked:

Kolbaba bucked off this bull a little over a year ago, but this isn’t a bad draw for him. Bushwacked is a good-sized bull with big horns, and he’s proud of those horns. He can spin either way, and once he drops into a spin, he really leans into it and can keep the pressure on the rider. He’s similar to Palm Springs or Lester Gillis in that his up-and-down bucking speed can be a little slower than his spin, which makes him feel like he has odd timing. He’s definitely rideable, but Jose Vitor Leme is the only man who has ridden him in more than a year. From late 2019 to early 2020, he was ridden several times for good scores. Kolbaba is coming off a first-round win and has a chance to grab more points.

Cody Nance on -625 Sugar Boom Boom:

We haven’t seen this bull much – he only has three outs on his record – but he’s likely to be pretty nice to riders, especially left-handed ones. Derek Kolbaba rode him in early 2020, and if that’s his typical trip, riders at this level will eat him up. Nance made a great ride on a tough bull in Round 1, and this one should be much nicer.

Eduardo Aparecido on 1X Tarabull:

This bull doesn’t have that much experience, but he looks like he has extremely good timing. He may go away from Aparecido’s hand, but great timing makes this less of an issue. Aparecido got a score in Round 1 and has a rideable draw in Round 2.

Colten Fritzlan on 208 Why Hell Ya:

Why Hell Ya may be a little tougher than Fritzlan’s first-round bull, but he’s still pretty nice. He likes to go to the right and is 5-5 against right-handed riders. That’s a good draw in any round. Fritzlan was 88 points on the most rider-friendly bull at this event last night, so every bull in Round 2 will be a bit more difficult.

Joao Ricardo Vieira on 403 Crazy Doc:

Like Leme, Vieira has a fantastic draw that he should easily handle. Crazy Doc is 2-4 against lefties, and he’s a bull who can deliver big scores, too. Crazy Doc is a showy bull who looks harder than he is. He has good timing and stays in a small area while having plenty of action. He can reverse the spin, which is the only thing about him that could give Vieira trouble.
