TicketSmarter Morning Line – Des Moines Round 2

By: Slade Long

Cooper Davis on 437B Lil 2 Train:

This is one of the better bulls out in this round, and Davis is 2-for-3 against him. Davis was 91.5 points on Lil 2 Train in Sioux Falls, and 89.5 points on him in New York this season, and won second in the round each time. Davis came down quickly last night, but he may be able to salvage his weekend here.

Keith Hall on 43 Roulette:

Hall made the whistle in Round 1, and he has a good chance at a score here. Roulette has great timing, and should spin into Hall’s hand. Daylon Swearingen and Brennon Eldred both had big rides on this bull at rodeos in the summer of 2019.

Jess Lockwood on 408 Rebel Call:

The numbers are stacked against Lockwood on this one. Rebel Call is 23-1 in his career, and he threw Lockwood off at the Velocity Finals last year when Lockwood was in the middle of an epic title run. For most riders, matchup numbers like this all but guarantee a buckoff, but not so for Lockwood. He’s one of a handful of riders who regularly win with the odds against them.

Cody Casper on 60 Midnight Rock:

This is a good bull, a good draw, and a good opportunity for Casper. Midnight Rock likes to go to the right, into Casper’s hand. This is a young, honest bull who will beat all but the best riders going. He’s high in the ABBI Classic standings this year, and will compete for the Classic title this year.

J.B. Mauney on 611 Kid Knapper:

We don’t know much about this bull except that he has no real history at pro level events. He’s been to number of ABBI Classic competitions this year, and he’s consistently turned in mid- to high-80s scores. He’s won enough to qualify for the ABBI Classic Finals so far. Obviously, Mauney is capable of riding anything, as he demonstrated last night, but this matchup is a big question mark. An interesting scenario here is that as we approach the end of the season, Mauney may help Jose Vitor Leme clinch the title. Mauney is making a push to qualify for the Finals, and if he goes on a run he could vacuum up points that the Top 5 riders desperately need.

Keyshawn Whitehorse on 027 Concealed Carry:

Whitehorse had this bull in 2019 and bucked off, but this is a pretty good bull to have at any PBR event. He’s honest, no tricks, and has good timing. He’s a better fit for a lefty, but he’s been ridden a couple of times by right-handed riders.

Mason Taylor on 519 Hell on the Red:

Hell on the Red has only four outs on record, and Taylor is one of those. He was 88.75 points on this bull’s first recorded out in Guthrie, Oklahoma, earlier this year. Cody Teel also posted 87.75 points on the bull a few months later – also in Guthrie. Taylor didn’t get a score last night, but he may bounce back here.

Kaique Pacheco on 446B Jaywalker:

Pacheco was fifth in Round 1, and he has a much more difficult bull today. Jaywalker is 21-2 overall, and 12-0 against right-handed riders. This bull has a lot of up and down, and can rattle guys loose without relying on spin. The key factor here is that Pacheco is pretty good on this kind of bull, and he’s not easy to shake. His style is well suited for bulls that buck and kick hard.

Derek Kolbaba on 391 Slingin’ Tears:

Kolbaba faced this bull at the end of last season and bucked off, but he has a chance here. Slingin’ Tears is tricky to ride in his own right, but he should spin into Kolbaba’s hand.

Joao Ricardo Vieira on 62X Lockdown:

This is a relatively unknown bull who has only four outs, but he’s given up two qualified rides. Viera finished third in Round 1 last night, but he needs some firsts, and he has to hope this bull can get him there.
