TicketSmarter Morning Line – Fort Worth Round 1

By: Slade Long

These ABBI Classic bulls are almost the same set we saw a couple of weeks ago in Del Rio, where six of them posted scores of 44 points or better. It’s still early in the year for these bulls as they are all inexperienced at this level. Their campaign has barely begun, and there’s a lot of talent in this group. Only two of the 40 bulls out in Round 1 have five or more career professional level outs.

Chase Dougherty on 705E Manaba:

This bull was the 2019 ABBI Futurity champion. He’s 5-0 against riders at PBR events, and he will probably spin away from Dougherty’s hand here. Manaba has always been out of a right delivery and loves to go to the right. Although he’s reasonably inexperienced against pro-level riders, this isn’t his first trip to town. He has around 40 bull competition outs under his belt, and he’s picked up around 34 paychecks that add up to about a quarter of a million dollars in total. There’s every reason to believe he will be a consistent 44- to 46-point bull at this level, and that is a rarity.

Alex Cerqueira on E18 Cuttin’ Torch:

Torch has been to all four Classic level ABBI events that have been held this year, and he’s placed first, second, sixth and seventh. He’s in second place overall in the Classic standings right now. He should go into Cerqueira’s hand, but he’s not easy to ride, and he’s not easy to even get out of the chute on. He can be a handful on both sides of the chute gate.

Jose Vitor Leme on 72 Hundred Bad Days:

This could be the round win. This bull has a lot of gas, and he likes to go to the left. If he does the same thing he did in Del Rio, and Leme comes back the same guy we’ve been watching for the past year, there’s a great chance this blows up for more than 90 points.

Joao Ricardo Vieira on 716 Outlaw:

When we saw these bulls go in Del Rio a few weeks ago, the riders got seven ridden out of 31 total, which is below par for a UTB-level event. If it goes the same way here, every qualified ride is big. This is a matchup that looks like it should go Vieira’s way. We don’t know too much about this bull, but he’s been ridden twice by left-handed riders in four outs. Vieira will be the best rider he’s faced by far. This may not be a bull Vieira can win the round on, but he should at least get a score.

Brennon Eldred on 39E- Cherry Bomb:

Cherry Bomb has been ridden twice in four outs. Like Manaba, he’s a bull-competition veteran who has been active and winning since the beginning of his 2-year-old season in 2019. Like Manaba, he also tends to go to the right, and he finished in second place to Manaba in the 2019 season. Cherry Bomb is a better fit for Eldred than Manaba is for Dougherty.

Rodrigo Melgar on 701 Mr. Right Now:

Mason Taylor was 89.25 points on this bull to place second in the long round in Del Rio. Mr. Right Now went to the left with Taylor, but near the whistle, he showed he can reverse the spin, too. This is a high-effort bull who also has good timing. He keeps his head low enough to brush the ground with his nose while he’s spinning, and this gives him power and momentum compared to bulls that buck with their head high. Mr. Right Now is a quality bucker with solid timing, and that makes him a good draw for any rider. Melgar is probably happy to have him.

Ezekiel Mitchell on 75 Billy Frank:

This bull is a son of SweetPro’s Bruiser, and he’s already had a pretty impressive career at bull competitions. He’s been in the game as long as Manaba and Cherry Bomb, but he’s slightly different. Unlike his father, Billy Frank has some funky moves that he can only get away with because he has world-class balance. He’s less rider-friendly than most high-achieving ABBI bulls, and Mitchell may find him hard to handle.
