Ty Breuer Captures RAM Badlands Circuit Finals Title
The rodeo life remains an endless series of Google maps wanderings across the country. So, you can imagine how rewarding it was for Ty Breuer to return to the RAM Badlands Circuit Finals in Minot, N.D. this weekend.
He lives about 90 minutes away, ranching southwest of Mandan. This event offered a chance to bring the entire family and a host of family and friends to watch him. As he did at the end of the 2022 ProRodeo regular season, Breuer delivered in the clutch. The veteran cowboy won the three-head bareback average with a score of 257.5, demonstrating remarkable consistency.
The first night out of the chute on Muddy Creek Pro Rodeo’s Pejuta Haka established the tone.
“I drew that good horse first and it helped. They were all good horses. But Pejuta got everything rolling,” said Breuer, who pocketed $2,149 for the first-round victory. “She is such a good horse. She bucks hard, rides hard, really gives you a chance to score.”
Breuer posted an 87-opening score, then followed that up with an 86 on Sutton Rodeos’ Dirty Dance for another $2,149. With a comfortable margin, Breuer had to stay on his final ride – he notched an 84.5 – to finish off the weekend. Winning never gets old, but doing it front of family made it resonate more. Wife Kelli, 5-year-old daughter Kayd, sons Treyt (3) and Trex (1) and his grandparents were all in attendance.
“It was a busy time,” Breuer said. “It was a great environment with a lot of family there. To be able to take the wife and kids is special. It was a really good week and a short drive home.”
Breuer found the throttle down the stretch this season. He was living on the bubble and finished 14th in the PRCA | RAM World Standings to qualify for his seventh NFR. His first berth came in 2013.
“That is always the goal. It sure did feel good to make it. That last month-and-half I was right at the edge. There was pressure, but I just tried to keep it simple, approaching it one horse at a time and not look too far ahead,” Breuer said. “It worked out.”
The North Dakota native will rodeo this upcoming weekend, then has some planned rest to heal it and get ready for Las Vegas.
“There will be some time to stay at home,” Breuer said. “Then I will get back to it.”
Other winners at the $193,394 rodeo were all-around cowboy Austin Hurlburt ($8,864, tie-down roping and steer wrestling); steer wrestler Cameron Morman (12.4 seconds on three head); team ropers Jade Schmidt/Jade Nelson (18.5 seconds on three head); saddle bronc rider Shorty Garrett (242 points on three head); tie-down roper Austin Hurlburt (26.8 seconds on three head); barrel racer Lisa Lockhart (41.39 seconds on three runs); breakaway roper Syerra Christensen (7.0 seconds on three head); and bull rider Chance Schott (172.5 points on two head).
