WCRA Announces 2022 Rodeo Corpus Christi Final Athlete Roster

By: Kyle Jones

AUSTIN, Texas – Ahead of the 2022 Rodeo Corpus Christi, WCRA (World Champions Rodeo Alliance) has announced the final roster of the 355 athletes who have qualified and entered for the May 8-14 event and their date of competition.

Rodeo Corpus Christi is playing host to the first stop to the WCRA’s Triple Crown of Rodeo (TCR) during the 2022 series and will have a guaranteed payout of $553,000. Each champion will walk away with a minimum of $15,000.

The roster is comprised of 275 timed event athletes and 80 roughstock athletes who qualified by nominating their efforts on the WCRA VRQ leaderboard.

RC Landingham (Bareback Riding), Wyatt Casper (Saddle Bronc), Deklan Garland (Bull Riding), Tanner Brunner (Steer Wrestling), Kaleb Driggers (Team Roping Header), Junior Nogueira (Team Roping Heeler), Riley Webb (Tie-Down Roping), Sissy Winn (Barrel Racing), Josie Conner (Breakaway Roping) and Trey Wallace (Steer Roping) all earned the No. 1 position on the leaderboard to be seeded into the Showdown Round.

The following seven athletes are entered and eligible for the Triple Crown of Rodeo presented by Lazy E Ranch and Arena Bonus- a $1 million bonus to any one athlete or collection of athletes who win first place in any three consecutive WCRA Major Rodeos:

DISCIPLINE                       ATHLETE

Bareback Riding                    Tim O`Connell

Saddle Bronc                          Cole Elshere

Heading                                  Jason Burson

Heeling                                   Corey Hendrick

Tie-Down Roping                 Riley Webb

Breakaway Roping              Tacy Kay Webb (Two Wins)

Barrel Racing                       Sherri Barnes

Tacy Kay Webb, a 24-year-old ICU nurse, has positioned herself to win the TCR. For her, fresh off the win at Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo, the event marked her second consecutive WCRA Major win, putting her in line to be a millionaire. If Tacy Kay triumphs at May’s Rodeo Corpus Christi, she will be the first victor of the WCRA Triple Crown of Rodeo $1 Million Bonus and the first woman in rodeo to become an overnight millionaire.

WCRA will hold timed event qualifying rounds (May 9-10), and all steer roping rounds of competition (May 8) in Robstown, Texas, at Richard M. Borchard Regional Fair Grounds. All rough stock disciplines will be seeded directly into the progressive rounds (May 11-14).
