Western Events Go Prime Time in the Nutrien Western Event Centre for Stampede 2022

Calgary – Experience 10 days of agriculture and western events in the Nutrien Western Event Centre! Stampede 2022 welcomes back fan favourite programming along with some new and exciting events throughout the day and for prime time performances. There’s something for everyone with the historic Heavy Horse Show, the thrilling World Stock Dog Championship, the impressive Vintage Tractor Pull, the brand-new Rocky Mountain Cup Team Roping Championship, and the fast-paced action of the Cowboy Up Challenge. All prime time performances take place from 6:30-8 p.m. and are included with admission to Stampede Park.

Prime Time Events

Heavy Horse Show: July 8 – 10

The majestic heavy horses have been showing at the Calgary Stampede for over 135 years – since the inception of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth in 1886. Not only is it the longest running agricultural competition in Calgary, it is also the oldest heavy horse show in North America. Sunday, July 10 features the popular World Champion Six Horse Hitch.

Vintage Tractor Pull: July 11

Feel the rumble of these beautifully restored tractors as they bring history back to life. Built in 1960 or earlier, these tractors will be showcasing a different kind of horsepower and are set to square off across six different weight classes. New this year is Tractor Up, where competitors will display their driving skills in a head-to-head match.

Rocky Mountain Cup Team Roping: July 12

The Calgary Stampede, in partnership with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, is excited to bring Team Roping to The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. The world’s top teams compete for $100,000 in prizing in the world’s richest day of Team Roping.

World Stock Dog Championship Finals: July 13

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the World Stock Dog Championship is truly a fan favourite at the Calgary Stampede. These incredibly agile and intelligent dogs move three sheep through a challenging course and into a pen in less than four minutes. The top 12 dogs and their handlers will compete for the $10,000 winning top spot and the title of Grand Champion.

Heavy Horse Pull: July 14

The Calgary Stampede Heavy Horse Pull is the ultimate strength competition. Come watch some of the biggest and strongest horses in the world as they work together pulling more than five times their body weight in the Heavy Weight Finals.

Cowboy Up Challenge: July 15 -17

The Calgary Stampede Cowboy Up Challenge is a multi-faceted equestrian sporting event that showcases the partnership of horse and rider as they maneuver through a series of obstacles. Each obstacle demonstrates amazing horsemanship skills, incredible speed, trust and agility.
