Whitehorse Wins Minot Y’s Men PBR TPD; Swearingen Also Travels 1,500 Miles to Pull off Double Duty in San Antonio

By: Justin Felisko

PUEBLO, Colo. – There was not much time for 2018 PBR Rookie of the Year Keyshawn Whitehorse to relax this weekend, but the extra effort and airline miles partially paid off.

Whitehorse’s 2-for-2 performance Friday night at the Minot Y’s Men PBR Touring Pro Major event in Minot, North Dakota, was enough to net him the victory at the two-day bull riding.

The No. 9-ranked bull rider could not double-enter the event like some riders as he had to hustle to San Antonio on Saturday morning for the PBR U.S. Border Patrol Invitational, presented by Ariat. Still, Whitehorse earned 39.5 world points and $11,918.09 in Minot by riding WSM’s Drop The Hammer (87.5 points) and Sitting Bull (88 points).

Whitehorse was not rewarded for his 1,500-mile journey in Round 1 in San Antonio on Saturday night when Total Feeds Bushwacked bucked him off in 1.91 seconds.

Daylon Swearingen also pulled double duty this weekend as he went 2-for-2 in Minot for a second-place finish.

Swearingen then kept his momentum going in San Antonio with 86.5 points on Nervous Wreck to finish Round 1 in eighth place.

The 22-year-old earned 28 world points in Minot and an additional 12 points at the AT&T Center on Saturday night.

Swearingen has been surging his way up the world rankings in recent weeks, and he will head into Championship Sunday (8 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network) now ranked No. 24 and well-positioned to qualify for his third consecutive PBR World Finals.

After finishing third at Last Cowboy Standing in Fort Worth, Texas, and leaving Dickies Arena ranked No. 43 in the world on Aug. 29, Swearingen has since gone 14-for-24 (58.33%) at all levels of competition with two victories and eight Top-5 finishes to move up 19 spots in the rankings.

Rounding out the Top 5 in Minot was Jory Markiss, Dalton Wright and Chance Schott.

Ezekiel Mitchell and Conner Halverson were the other riders to compete in both Minot and San Antonio, and both are 0-for-3 so far on the weekend.

Whitehorse, Swearingen, Mitchell and Halverson will look to finish their long weekend on a high note during Championship Sunday in San Antonio.

Fans can watch the conclusion of the PBR U.S. Border Patrol Invitational, presented by Ariat, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network.
