World No. 1 Moorman and No. 2 Dunn Match Moves on Day 3 of 2021 UBF World Finals

By: Ted Stovin

FORT WORTH – Both world No. 1 Chance Moorman (Lytle, Texas) and world No. 2 Knox Dunn (Slaughter, Louisiana) kept the 2021 Ultimate Bullfighters (UBF) world title race tight with round wins Saturday night on Day 3 of the 2021 UBF World Finals from the historic Cowtown Coliseum at the Fort Worth Stockyards.

With the event format, both bullfighters have punched their ticket to Championship Saturday on Dec. 11, the UBF World Finals Finale.

First out on the night, world leader Moorman put up the highest score of the entire competition so far at 88 points against Mint Condition of Frog Creek Fighting Bulls.

“Man, some guys like going first, but I kind of like to be about middle pack. I like to watch a couple and reassure myself that I can do it,” Moorman told Wacey Anderson of the Cowboy Sh*t podcast and UBF pre-show presented by Wrangler. “When I’m up first, you know I’m going to go big because I’ve got to. There’s other guys gunning behind me, and they’re just as good as I am.”

Having been 81.5, Moorman snuck through to Quarter Final Saturday after winning his round on Thursday night, the opening night of competition.

“It felt really good ’cause I came out here the first day and didn’t quite have the bull to put up that kind of score,” Moorman said. “To come out here and have that bull in to put up the fight I did, it’s just an amazing feeling to walk into Saturday on.”

For both Moorman and Dunn, punching their tickets directly to Championship Saturday lets them breathe a sigh of relief.

“The strategy I’m gonna have is to just kind of rest up,” Moorman said. “Me and Knox had talked about it and never it made it this easy to the final day. We’ve always been in the Wild Card or Redemption Round. We’re really glad just to be in that final day without having to strain.”

Fighting on back-to-back nights, Dunn kept pace with Moorman, putting up an 87-point fight against Lights Out Cattle Co.’s Mikey Malo to remain within $2,110 of world No. 1 in what will all come down to the major $25,000 first-place check one week from today.

“It actually felt wonderful; just get out there and just do the same thing as I did yesterday and just be smooth and calm,” Dunn, who also makes his way directly to Saturday for the first time, said.

“Usually, at these Bullfighting World Finals, they have you going through a progression of different days,” Dunn explained. “If you lose a round, you get to regain yourself and try and win another round to take yourself to the short round. But if you win your first two rounds, you get to go straight to the last day. This is the first time I got to bypass to the final weekend. It feels pretty dang good.”

With a week off, there’s some time to burn and wounds to heal, but he’s looking forward to it.

“Just kind of kick back and do some work with Sage Seay, Dekevis Jordan and ChaseBlythe, and just kind of get my mind off of it and act like we’re back at the house and just keep having fun out here,” Dunn said.

With major moves, both Roper Rich (Eaton, Colorado) and Clay Moore (Belen, New Mexico) punched their ticket directly to the finals. Their scores were 87 and 85.5, respectively.

With those four moving on, the remaining eight from Saturday night will fight in Friday, Dec. 10’s Wild Card Round. Those who did not fight tonight take their chance at moving on to Friday in Thursday’s Redemption Round. The top four move on to Friday, having to fight on Thursday, Friday and Saturday for their chance at the top prize of $25,000 and their share of the epic $100,000 purse.
