Xtreme Broncs Match Adds $50,000

On May 22, some of the top saddle bronc riders in the world will be focusing on a big payday.

The Veater Financial Group Battle of the Best Xtreme Broncs will be held in Coarsegold, Calif., 40 miles from Fresno, on George Veater’s ranch.

The event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. (ET) and will be streamed on the PRCA on Cowboy Channel Plus App.

The format will have four sections of go-rounds with the winner of each section advancing to the finals. The event has $50,000 added.

Veater, who won the California Circuit year-end title in saddle bronc riding in 2001, has been around rodeo all his life and has made it a point to give back to the sport.

“I was always a circuit cowboy,” Veater said. “I have a cattle ranch and I’ve been involved with rodeo for years. Then, I have a large financial advisory firm I built. Rodeo has always been my sport and part of my Western heritage, and this is an opportunity for me to give back. I started helping high school and college kids years ago, and it’s evolved to this. It’s really fun to get this event sanctioned (by the PRCA) and be around this level of athletes and have it take place on my ranch. It’s very cool.”

The top 10 finishers in the 2020 PRCA | RAM World Standings, the top eight in the current world standings, and the 2020 California Circuit year-end champion and RAM California Circuit Finals Rodeo average champion will compete.

Those qualifiers include reigning Saddle Bronc Riding World Champion Ryder Wright and his brother and two-time reigning All-Around World Champion Stetson Wright. Wyatt Casper, who finished second in the world standings a year ago, also is scheduled to compete in Coarsegold.

“I’m excited to go there for the first time,” Casper said. “I think if everything goes right you could win $25,000 in one day. To be able to compete for that and get that sort of jump in the world standings would be really cool. If you win this, your summer run would be paid for and you could just go rodeo.”

Casper is eighth in the world standings with $28,139.

Lefty Holman, who finished a career-best sixth in the 2020 world standings, is thrilled to compete in Coarsegold, an hour from his hometown of Visalia.

“This is a really great event, especially to have this kind of money available for bronc riders,” said Holman, 22. “It’s helps us get down the road, and to have an event like this in my home state of California is even better. I can’t wait to compete there. I hope we are able to have this event every year moving forward.”
