Brody Yeary Stays Hot, Leads at Dixie National Rodeo

Bull rider Brody Yeary didn’t have the season he wanted in 2023.

The Morgan Mill, Texas, cowboy finished out of the Top 50 in the PRCA | RAM World Standings.

He’s trying to change his fortunes in 2024 and he’s doing a good job so far in the winter run.

After earning $14,000 at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo on Feb. 3, Yeary has kept his foot on the gas pedal.

Yeary registered a 90-point ride on Harper & Morgan Rodeo Company’s Rondo Feb. 9 to take the lead at the Dixie National Rodeo in Jackson, Miss.

“I had never been on Rondo before,” said Yeary, 26. “I had seen him a few times over the last year or so and he’s just a big strong bull who has thrown a lot of guys off. I thought other than his size and power that he would be a good bull. I happened to get him and he kind of shortened it up a little bit and turned back a little closer than normal and I did what it took to take the power away from him and get him ridden.”

Now, Yeary must play the waiting game to see if he will win the Playoff Series Rodeo, which will conclude with performances on Feb.11 and Feb. 14-17. If he does take top honors in Jackson, it will be the second time in his career. He also won the title in 2020 with a 92-point ride on Stace Smith Pro Rodeos’ Bet On Black.

“Sometimes things line up right and I do my job and that’s how things have been for me in Jackson over the years,” said Yeary, who also placed second in Jackson in 2022.

As of Feb. 11, Yeary was sixth in the world standings with $27,386.

“I have not been to that many (winter) rodeos, but I have been staying on a little better than half (my bulls) and winning checks most of the places I have been, so things have been pretty good,” he said.
Since his Resistol Rookie season in 2017, Yeary has shown he belongs in the PRCA. He was a career-best 20th in the world standings in 2020; 22nd in 2018; and 28th in 2022.

“The No. 1 goal is to win a world title, and if I’m striving for that my other goals will fall into place,” Yeary said. “I enjoy all of it (that comes with riding bulls). I enjoy the travel. I enjoy the camaraderie and I enjoy the challenge and the thrill.”
